Neuro check skills - skills fair help please

As part of my final semester, I will be teaching neuro check skills to 1st and 2nd semester nursing students at a skills fair next month. Has anyone done something similar? I'm thinking of using a game format, something like Wheel of Fortune, but using clues, such as "What is often the first indication of a potential problem with your patient's status?" (the answer is LOC).

If anyone has any suggestions to throw my way, I'd sure appreciate it! Thanks!

Hi, Pbelle!

Are you also looking for material on what to include with neuro assessment? I wasn't quite clear on that?

Hey Daytonite! I have the material, I'm looking for suggestions on how to teach it to these students. I had the thought of doing a "Deal or No Deal"-type setup, so I could ask questions like "your patient was A&O x3 when you assessed them this morning. Now they're addressing you as Aunt Martha two hours later. What is this a sign of?" (Answer, change in LOC).

Along those lines. Thanks for your help!

I have always enjoyed jeopardy type games...for example...(you) Generally the first thing that happens when a patient is experiencing neurological problems...(them) What is LOC changes? Or something similar. This may be a little harder for the students depending on the material you wish to present. Or you could do a timed type game where you do teams (or individuals) and see who can answer the most questions correctly in the shortest amount of time. Just a thought...Good luck!
