hi everyone: i am new to allnurses.com and appreciate any comments, help and advice. i am an lvn who has taken the rn boards four times now and taking them again this august. i am really afraid of not passing. i have taken the kaplan review and the lifesaver's review. i work full-time and i am a married mother of one child. i have also been waiting too long in between taking the rn exam. any hints, studying techniques or literature? i am trying not to sabotage myself and take the bull by the horns this time however, i still get very nervous about not passing them again. part of me is the fact that i'm afraid to fail again and the other part is that i'm not quite sure what to go over now. i appreciate any feedback and thank you for reading my story.

Having confidence in yourself and in your knowledge and skills, is the half the battle. I just took the NCLEX RN for the first time 7/11/08 and passed. You know the material, you've seen it somewhere before. Always go with your "gut" feeling (usually the first answer you choose!). I took Kaplan and that really helped me a lot. Also, Kaplan makes these medication flash cards that are really good, I think they cost about $30 and you can get them at Barnes and Noble. The box has 300 meds in it--it's pretty useful! Try to answer questions everyday. Many of my questions were mcg/kg/min problems, medications, and prioritizing! I would say about 70% of the NCLEX I took had those 3 components. You need to get enough rest and just study a little everyday. I know that having a family and being a parent is a 24/7 job, but you need to make time for yourself. Last thing I can tell you is to relax. Do something for yourself: a mani/pedi, new outfit, watch a movie, or take a bath. You have 1 million times to take the test. Just have confidence! Good Luck and keep me posted!

I graduated nursing school in 04 and still have not passed the nclex rn. I will be taking it again for the 6th time on the 22 of july and I am ssoo sssoo nervous. I did however work as an lpn for one year with a permit so I do have a new found confidence. I am nervous but been there done that. I am anxious but been there done that. I am scared to fail but hey been there done that as well. I look at it this way, I can only excel. Speak positive over your life and positive things will happen. Good luck keep me posted and I will do the same

A book that I found extremely helpful was the Sauders Q&A Review (green cover- not the same as the Saunders Review that has sections on each disease process, etc.) The questions I felt were Kaplan level and the rationales were good. I used Kaplan and liked it but after a while I reached the point where I needed out of my apartment or simply couldn't look at QBank anymore...and then I'd grab a pen, my Q&A, and head to a coffeeshop or something. It has 5,000 questions and also comes with a CD (but I couldn't use that because I now have Vista and the CD was not compatible with that).

Saunders Q&A Review for the NCLEX-RN Examination

Hope this helps and best of luck to you with your studies.

PS- I don't know how much it helped me, but I have heard many people say not to limit yourself to just one source when studying, even if that one source is Kaplan.

So sry to hear this. Try to keep a positive attitude ! Have you inquired about Suzanne's plan???

Here's a link to take a look at it:

Keep studying!! You can do it !

Hey!! I am new to the site as well and I gotta tell you, you are in the right place!! I have received so much encouragementand advice here. I took my boards for the second time last week & failed again. I know how discouraged you feel. Don't give up. Just figure out a different way to study. Some people use Kaplan online course and/or book. Most everyone says teh Saunder's book (4th ed.) is good, and Suzanne's plan. This plan was new to mew & I checked it out and I am going to do it when I get my stuff together to do the first section. She's a nurse who voluntarily came up with a study plan to get results on the nclex. Every message I have seen sbout her plan is totally positive. So, you might check that out. She just posted an updated message yesterday on the main page.

good luck to you. Stay positive, pick yourself up...again and don't lose sight of your goal. You've come so far, it's just a matter of figuring out how to break that test. :heartbeat :bowingpur :D
