What is your hospital's policy on hiring relatives or spouses in the same dept??

I have worked in an OR where the mother was the unit manager, the daughter a nurse in the OR, the daughters fiance worked in the OR too, and the daughter's best friend (also a nurse) worked in the OR.

It was a nightmare.

We have a nurse that has her aunt as the charge/house supervisor......Guess who gets fewer admissions.

I worked in a rural hospital (town less than 1000) and from the CEO on down the best positions and pay were her relatives. They were in every department.Due to the small population in community, they used several from other surrounding towns, we got worse assignments, less pay, and worst hours. The "special relatives" always got best vacation times, holidays, etc. THere was no arguing. In additon, only "town" employees advanced, or were in supervisory (other than charge) positions. Doc , however, were quick to recognize who was a better nurse. One which came to me a month after I started and said" You know you won't be here long, the good ones never stay." At the time, I thought it odd, after a year, I KNEW what he was talking about. In addition, People divorced, and then married another employess spouse they had been seeing before the divorce. DOES GET COMPLICATED>
