Hi there!!

I don't honestly have any good answers for you...I, too, am graduating in May and feel nowhere near ready to actually go work as a nurse!!

From what I've read on allnurses and from talking to fellow students, we are not alone in our feelings.

I think the best thing we can all do is just keep moving forward. Take our licensing tests (NCLEX here in the U.S.) and apply for the jobs we are interested in. When we are hired, understand that we are most likely not the first graduate nurses to be scared to death and we won't be the last.

Do your best to relax and aim to be the best that you can be...make that your primary goal as well as maintaining the goal to constantly educate yourself ("trainings") and be open to new experiences and ideas.

Best wishes!!

I am just a first year student in my schools nursing progam and I am feeling the pressure from studying. I wish you the best. I hope you overcome your fears. You are not alone.

What exactly is a Neophyte?????? I have never heard of this expression before.

I graduate in may as well, but I have been interning for a little over nine months now. I really have a better understanding now with this experience than I would have with just school clinicals. You will never know everything. Period. every hospital that I have been to has a preceptor program for new hires. They are your mentor and teacher for the unit you are hiring on for. You both work for the hospital, and this usually creates a great relationship. Not like a floor nurse babysitting students. The hospital has a vested interest in nuturing you, guiding you, developing a nurse out of you. The relationship like you had in nursing school, with your instructors is over. It's ok for them to like you. You are coworkers and will most likely become friends. This is the person that will ask you to watch their pts while they grab lunch. Guys, I know you want to freak out, but I work on a Med/Surg unit and work rules. School is full of so much nonsense, and so much BS. You are going to love work, nd love the paycheck.
