Negotiate this job offer?

Specialties NP

I am an FNP student and will graduate this December. I had an interview last week with a family practice clinic in east central Illinois and received this offer from them today:

-Starting salary of $83,000 per year

-15 days (3 weeks) vacation

-1 week CME

-5 holidays

-401K plan

-Malpractice insurance (with tail coverage)

-All license renewal fees

-5% net collections

They are a federally qualified health center with a high score, so I am hoping I would receive loan repayment that way. I would also like to ask for moving expenses, as this site is not local to me. How does this offer look to you guys? This is my first offer so I'm not too sure how/what to negotiate.

Specializes in Nephrology, Cardiology, ER, ICU.

I'm in central IL and I would guess around Champaign/Decatur/BLM - thats a decent offer for a new grad in that area.

Specializes in Hospital medicine; NP precepting; staff education.

I like what you show us but I'm confused about 1 week CME. So that is time off to attain it, but the cost? Is it covered too?

Specializes in Nephrology, Cardiology, ER, ICU.

Glad you pointed that out WKShadow - going rate for CME in our area is $1500-2000 per year for CME plus the one week off

Specializes in ER, PCU, UCC, Observation medicine.

What is their net revenue? You get 5% of it? IDK much about Illinois pay scale but I know as a RN in PA I made close to 70K a year. As a NP in Texas, my first year out as an NP I made 145k. I think 83 for an NP is low, unless you get a nice chunk from collections. Remember in an office setting, your salary should be 80-85% of what the doctors make because that's how much you can bill out on your patients. I would at least negotiate to have a 1 year clause to re-negotiate pay, you will probably be slow your first year anyway.
