Hi all,
I had a needle stick at work after administering insulin. I followed protocol had my labs drawn and patients labs were drawn. Pt HIV rapid test was negative thankfully. The waiting game is killing me. I’m 21 weeks pregnant. Has this happened to anyone else? Can someone give me words of encouragement. I have so much anxiety that something will come up positive from the pt.

Assuming you gave the insulin via the correct route, subcutaneous, I can't, in my wildest imagination, figure how you could contact any blood born infectious disease.
I am 100% certain your chronic state of anxiety and stress is harmefull to you and your babies body.
Make an appointment with your OB now and discuss your worries with her.

For your sake and your baby's, don't borrow trouble today over something very unlikely to happen tomorrow.
We have had posts like this before and my suggestion, for your own peace of mind, is to work closely with your occ med people and especially to call your OB and make an appointment to get official reassurance - let them know that you'd like to come in and talk.

I had a needle stick by a patient positive with Hepatitis C (it was a non-coring mediport needle). I was okay, never contracted it. I then had another needle stick by safety pin that had been removed from a patient gown with a patient with MDRO (multiple drug resistant organisms). I was fine again. It is very unlikely there would be an issue. Employee health contacts an infectious disease doc typically and they can give you info on any risks.
