Need Your Wisdom and Experience please!

Hi everyone,

I'm a new grad nurse and I just started a job in a big name teaching hospital on a very busy med-surg floor about a month ago. I like it a lot but I honestly don't love it. However, I do everything with a smile and with a sense of urgency. I've never worked in a busier place in my whole life. This place is like a factory with the swarms of doctors and their orders and the influx of patients. I thought I was doing a bad job, but apparently some people think I'm doing great and I actually got asked if I was interested in doing Tele. I've been able to progress pretty rapidly and smoothly.

Please help me get it! I have a test to take in a couple days and I really want this opportunity. What are the things I can expect on this test? What meds are likely to be on it? What are some nursing interventions I should know?

Please help me wise and experienced nurses. I started reviewing strips and my ACLS stuff. I'm kind of freaking out but I'm determined to pass that test. I'm really grateful to have a job as a new grad in this med-surg unit, but I think my style and personality as a nurse would make me a better fit in a critical care unit. This hospital is known in the country for hearts. It would be amazing to be a part of that.

Thanks so much! I really appreciate all the advice, tips, wisdom you can offer.

I like the EKG interpretation game at skillstat.com. If they are testing you for

reading strips, know every possible rhythm that is listed.

Do they do drips on this tele floor or not? Ask someone that works there what

kinds of drips they do, if any. Study those drips and know what it is for, how

it works, typical dosing, and in what increments it is titrated for.

Have you taken ACLS yet? Since they are aware you work in med/surg, I don't

think the test will be that cardiac inclusive. They probably will have a class you

can take as part of orientation to tele.
