Need to vent - UPS lost "textbook".

So UPS lost my textbook..  To clarify, it's just a code to activate a digital textbook, which they refuse to just email, they must print it out on a card and physically mail..

I ordered last week with an original delivery date of Thursday, then Friday, then Monday.  On Monday, it was "out for delivery" all day, then the status changed back to "In Transit".

On Tuesday I get ahold of UPS and they say, "yep, it's lost, all you can do is file a claim", so I do.

To compound the situation, our campus bookstore absolutely refuses to allow in-store pickup, they will only ship (due to covid).  To compound it further, the entire campus was shut down all week (until today) due to MLK day and the potential for civil unrest around the inauguration.

So I finally get the chance to call the bookstore this morning.  I know this may shock you, but they refuse to help me.  "Once it leaves our doors, it's UPS's fault".  I call UPS because I still haven't heard anything on my claim, they said it can take 8 business days.. Plus the time it takes to refund.. plus the time it takes to order a new book and have it shipped.

Thankfully my professors are being understanding (class started 2 days ago), but at some point I'm going to need access to my textbook.. This is only a 7 week module (peds rotation), of which I won't have a textbook for probably half of that time unless I can come up with $250 more to order another book (and hope the refund process works).

Literally all of this could have been prevented if they'd just email digital codes.

Former faculty, perhaps professor has copy you can borrow? Once  had a student come in with her book that her dog ate! The big fat med surg book that’s 4 inches thick, loaned her spare copy until she could get a use date book online..

When I was in school, I rented my textbooks. I was waiting for the delivery of one of the books. I lived in Indiana and one day it said it was in Ohio, next day in Illinois, third day back to the Ohio facility, forth day back to the Illinois facility, fifth day back to Ohio. The book literally traveled over my house four times. I finally called UPS to tell them what was going on. There was an issue with the barcode and their automated system kept sending back to the other facility.

So I have to get it out there, my professors have been fanstastic through this.  Working with the bookstore and the e-book site as well as emailing my concept questions and offered to loan me a book.

They’ve obviously extended my online EAQ assignments  and they’ve also allowed the assignments this week to be cited from wherever I can find instead of the textbook..

ultimately Elsevier hooked me up with a 30 day trial on the book and I have a 14 day free trial on the EAQs, hopefully that’s enough time to straighten this out.
