Need Some Advice! Help!!!

Nursing Students LPN/LVN Students

Published

Hello everyone,

so I am currently looking into a LPN program which is 12 months long and starts in July. The school is Brightwood college, previously known as Kaplan. I've been beating myself up because I don't know if I want to continue with the application process. The program costs about $32,000 and I would have to take a loan of about $20,000. I don't know if it's worth it. My other plan was to retake an anatomy class that I didn't do so hot in and apply to either an ADN or BSN program in the fall. Any advice would be appreciated and helpful.

That is way too much money!!!! Run away!!!! I suggest you go to your local tech school or community college. Retake the Anatomy class, if you can.

Specializes in Complex pedi to LTC/SA & now a manager.

No. It will take you forever to pay that loan off

My lpn program at my local tech school was $3600 in 2003-2004. Since 2015 tech school has been free in my state for the majority of people (paid for with lottery funds). For the few people still paying out of pocket, the LPN program is still less then $10k though, I'm thinking it's around $7-8k. There's no way I'd pay $30k, there's definitely other options out there. Good luck.

I had the same issue. I had been thinking about skipping getting my LPN and go straight to RN. I then took 2 years off school and never got any further with my education. The LPN program that I'm currently in is $28,000. I had to get a student loan for 20k but so far I'm not really worried about it. To be honest I just needed a program that started quickly and to get into without pre-req's. I finish next month and I am already enrolled for fall semester into my local community college for pursing my RN. As long as you are still enrolled in 3 college credit hours, you won't get charged interest on subsidized loans. Which was the biggest thing I was worried about. Yes, 30k is a lot for school but everyone has their own path but the end goal is the same...You will be an LPN! So I would go for it. Year after year of contemplating getting my LPN and I'm finally almost done. Good luck!

If you don't know to wait, pay it. Just my input

I agree @Loveyou09. I also took a break from school & only further my education by a small step, by using my Cna & becoming a Qma "qualified medication aide". I'm looking into Brightwood College Lpn program as well. I meet with them later this week. Yes the school is more expensive than my community college but I'm tired of the waiting & waitlist.
