Need an RN to Interview :-)

Published

Hi!

I am new to this forum, I have browsed around a bit before and I've found lots of info.

I am a 1st year Nursing student @ Eastern Michigan University, and I have an assignment to complete but I need a little help! I have to write a paper on contemporary nursing, where I will have to interview an RN. I don't know anyone personally who is an RN so that's why I came!

Here is a description of the paper:

The purpose of this activity is to provide the students the opportunity to learn about nursing from the perspective of contemporary practice. A secondary but equal purpose is to promote the students' use of their library skills, practice their writing skills, and use of APA format. In planning this paper students need to identify an audience beyond the faculty. For example, consider writing for the audience of the "Oprah Show" or a local newspaper. How would you help that audience understand nursing in today's world?

This is a formal paper using APA format. The maximum number of pages is 5-6 for the body of the paper, excluding the title page, references and appendices. No abstract needed.

After doing preliminary research on nursing today, students are to select an RN in current practice for the interview. Choose at leaset 2 issues identified by the nurse and search literature for those topics. Find at least 3 peer reviewed articles that address the issues identified by the RN and use those articles to suport/expand/contradict the issues.

So I will need any willing RN to take a few minutes to help me out with this! Unfortunately my professor does require me to provide the full name and credentials of the RN that I am interviewing, so I will have to have that information.

Thank you very much for your time!

I think it is nice that someone volunteered, but I would suggest that an interview is a different activity than having someone that, for all intensive purposes, you have never met fill out information. For all you know, any of us here could be anything - no guarantee we are RN's. But I would suggest at least asking your professor if having someone simply fill in some answers off the internet meets the criteria of the assignment?

I would also suggest that meeting an RN is not a difficult task and this would be great opportunity to meet an RN - maybe in an area of nursing you might be interested in. For example, find the pediatric floor of local hospital if interested in pediatrics - maybe find nurse willing to spend a break with you. Or if geriatrics possibility, go to LTC facility.

Our professor suggested many ways that we could find an RN, one being the internet as well.. so it is ok. I'm not sure what I'd like to specialize in so at this point, anything goes :)

Lol I am an actual nurse - just so ya know :) Graduated from a diploma school with honors - so she's safe this time.

But I agree it would be a great opportunity for her to 'network' but if she can't I already answered all of her questions. And truly shes safe with me.

yeah I plan on networking, it's a great idea, just not feasible at the time because of time restraints, our program is very intensive and takes up practically my entire week. I plan on attending some professional meetings in the middle of next month, but our paper is due in two weeks.. kinda pressed for time.
