Need pros and cons of home healthcare/hospice

Published

Really want to find something else to do as a nurse, other than working in medical/surgical unit. My feet and back are starting to bother me from constantly walking, standing and lifting. My hours have been cut because of renovations and I dont have time to use when I am cancelled from work. I have really ben thinking about going into home health/ hospice. I really would appreciate if someone can give me tips on the pros/ cons and good companies to work for in Alabama. Thanks

Read the posts! You will see the various ways home care nurses get paid and the issues that we have. Some love it, some hate it, just like any other kind of nursing.

Cons- Lengthy documentation, Can be professionally isolating at times (because you are working on your own and have limited contact with nurses and other staff), Lots of phone calls/holding to talk to doctors, insurance companies, etc., Lots of agencies that are not reputable.

Pros- Very rewarding!!! The ability to work one on one with patients and really educate them about their disease process, Very autonomous, Flexible, Less stressful than hospital nursing (IMO), Stable daytime hours.
