Hi all,
I am a student at Ivy Tech College and am in my last course, Medical Surgical Nursing 3, before graduation and have been tasked with creating a evidence based practice paper using 3 - 5 sample studies from any Nursing Journal. My professor is very picky and insists on the authors to be some type of nurse. I originally wanted to do the paper on MRSA Prevention, but have not been able to find any actual sample studies that have been completed so I have the actual sample data. All samples must be more than 10 (n>10). I still have time to change my topic and get approval from my professor. I think it might be better if I find a topic that has had a lot of studies done about it with actual data instead of picking a topic and then searching for the data. That is where I need all your help.
What is a current topic in the nursing field where there have been a lot of studies completed and a lot of data made available. The study must be medical related, not something like nurse retention. Because I am a student, I do not subscribe to any journals, but do have access to them, so if you have a particular journal in mind, please let me know the journal, volume and date and I'm sure I can get it. Thank you in advance for all your help. If I left something out or you have a question for me, just post and I will check back regularly.
Thank you,
Kristy

I am sure you can find studies on MRSA Prevention -- search CINAHL.

I agree that there probably are some sources out there of studies conducted by nurses. I had a similar assignment for grad school, though a little more involved. My topic was VAP prevention in the ICU with the use of bundles of evidence-based nursing and respiratory care activities. Try using different search terms and various scholarly search engines through your school's library site. Maybe you can focus on infection control and prevention with various nursing activities as opposed to focusing on MRSA in particular. Make sure the primary investigator (usually if not always the first author listed) is a nurse.

How about prevention of hospital acquired infections? Or a specific infection site rather than a specific organism. This is a hot topic now because of reimbursement. Things like VAP, CAUTI, surgical wounds, pressure...

a well researched and nurse driven idea is oral care and pneumonia prevention. Q4 hour care and use of peridex is now a standard in all vented patients in the VAP protocol. With the change in hospital non payment for nosocomials, this is a mainstay in practice.

can you do a search on CINAHL for "sample study" as a keyword?
