I just finished my nursing pre req... Got all bs and one a:(... I'm thinking of going to gurnick in July... I'm scared that I might not be bright enough to conquer the program.. I currently work at walmart, very flexible hours... Can anyone tell me what am I going to face?... Should I be discouraged already?... If anyone can break it down to a science for me I will totally appreciate it... Please!!

Even though you got Bs, there's no reason for you to believe that you can't make it through nursing school. You need to take some time to see about the amount of hours you can work, because nursing school is very demanding and will consume your life (rightfully so). Some people can handle working nearly full time and the challenge with nursing school, it's different for everyone. That's my two cents. If you are truly passionate about nursing, please do not put yourself down and have a little faith in yourself! :)

Thank u.. I'm thinking if I enter the program I'll just work like two days out of the week.. I currently have two bills in my life rightnow... I'm just wondering and confused a little.. Is it the time that consumes u in the nursing program what's difficult or is it the actual book work???

Nursing school is hard because you kind of have to change your way of thinking. Memorizing facts is not that hard and most people can do it, but you can't just regurgitate those facts like you could have in other disciplines. I have to say that most people only fully understand nursing thought their last semester They struggle though other semesters, which gives people the illusion that nursing school is hard. I don't think it's that hard. There are those massive care plans that almost gave me a massive coronary in the beginning. But after learning the trick, I can chuck them out in one night. The hardest part of nursing school for me is learning procedures like starting IVs, putting in a catheter, etc. I didn't know how to take a blood pressure until the end of my first semester. I passed the BP test because my professor gasp/flinched a little when it reached the number.

My advice to you is to go to nursing school with some confidence. Don't worry about your B's in science courses. The best thing about nursing school is that you get to practice what you learned, which is the best way of learning. If you are a procrastinator, I would recommend working a lot so you have less time to procrastinate. I got my best grades when I was working full time. If you still feel scared, get a cheap/slightly outdated nursing book and start reading it. Watch some videos on youtube.com. Good luck on your school. I know that 2-3 years from now, you'll be a proud graduate.

It has been my experience that nursing school isn't so much about the stuff you learn.... since it is virtually impossible to learn everything you are supposed to. It is about working under pressure and being able to cope with the stress more then anything. You will get questions which have no answer, Like this one....What do you teach a child with a heart disorder? A: Teach him to rest when he feels an attack coming on, or B: Teach him CPR. Well you teach the child cpr.... how that helps him is beyond me.... But if you can tough it out and deal with the stress, and manage your time well... you will do fine.

I can speak from my personal experience I went to school to get my BSN. I'm not going to lie to you it was ROUGH. Especially the first year...ROUGH. But I'm not sure if you're getting your BSN. It's very stressful, but heck if I could go through it anyone can. Also I almost quit after my first year. But I bit the bullet and went through it and now I'm so happy. Maybe give it a shot and see how you can do it. I worked part time onyl because full time would've killed me. The program I went to was also run by a nurse who made the BSN program the equivalent of an Master's program so that she could turn out great nurses. Are you able to speak to any nursing students currently enrolled in the program? Maybe call one of the profs and ask if she can set you up with someone in the program whom s/he feels would be honest with you.

And don't worry about your B's....grades are just grades. I had a nursing student in my class who got all A's and she made a very bad bedside nurse and had very bad techniques

Does not know what bsn means but I'm going for my lvn.. I don't consider myself book smart and retaining information can be a problem... I am great with people and do have a passion for care.. I would love to talk to someone that is already in the program.. I'll see if I can make that possible
