Hello everyone,

Im a failed nursing student In california and i have been out of school for about a year. I failed out of my 4th semester and was about 2 classes away from graduating. My life has been a mess and i want to get i back on track. I have applied for lvn challenge and i believe they have rejected it. I have search all over california for a nursing school and i found that will say they will take me in the fourth semester. Ive been waiting one semester and hoping they take me in the next semester but it is looking grim. Many places say they will not take a transfer that has failed. I going to try and check schools outside california. I might even try outside the country in the philippines. I dont know what i can do. Please any advice i can get would be great. THANK YOU SO MUCH

I am unclear why your old college cannot verify your education so you can get permission to take the NCLEX-PN? Is it to do with the time that has passed?

Why not return to your former college to take the final semester?

Good for you for looking to move forward and finishing this thing...there is one thing I'd advise to be careful about, although this re-req rule may only apply to some schools and not others - the situation was that a student from our school had failed their last semester similar to what you described. They said she could pick up and start that semester over again the following year, as long as the seats were available. 3 years passed by where she couldn't get in and her 5 year limit on her sciences were about to expire. The school notified her that these deadlines were approaching and that she would have to take these pre-reqs all over again if the deadline passed by. Her options were to continue to take the chance that a seat would become available or start over again in 100. She opted for the latter and was back in semester 1. So my advise is to be proactive in knowing these requirements and get the ball rolling to admissions where ever you end up - and to also be prepared for the worst case scenario that you could have to start from semester 1 all over again.

As far as your old school not giving up your transcripts/verifying your transcripts, I think that's against the law - they have to provide that information (it could be at some nominal cost though)

Hi. I am currently in the same situation as you khmendoza. I failed one class during my fourth semester and was inches away from graduating. I've been in the rut for the past couple of months trying to figure out what to do with my life. Believe me it is a mess once you have worked so hard for it then everything just crashes.I've been out since last dec. of 2009. I cannot get back in at my old school. Which schools in California do you know will accept fourth semester transfer students? And I'm kind of confuse, I heard you cannot challenge your way through to placed in as a 4th semester student. Is this true or not? And I have just found out today you can take the LVN-pn boards if you have taken that many nursing classes. Well i'm waiting for a reply at the school. crossing my fingers. My hopes aren't up yet. I am very determine to continue this even if it takes a little extra hard work.I just wished there was an easier way to deal things in life but everything just have to be so hard.

I have sacrificed so much my way through R.N. nursing school and I don't want this to be my last stop. I have to miss my cousin's wedding one time because I have so much to do. This is why I am sorting this all out now. I want answers from anyone. What shall I do?:crying2:

any updates on this? i am currently on the same boat. I am about to fail. my scores are way too low. I am about 2 subjects away from graduating an ADN program. I am already scouting for a school to take me but no luck. A lot has not responded to my inquiry. I just can't go through starting over again. =( ... my life is a mess. i have nowhere to go.

First piece of advice would be to get your lives in order. If you can't do that, then you're not going to be successful the second time around. You need your family/friends backing you 100%.

If I were you, I'd bite the bullet and try to get into an ADN program ASAP. At least that way its only 4 semesters and you'll likely be one of the most knowledgeable people in your class. Use the schools resources. We have a retention specialist and about 100 other people to help us as soon as we make ONE bad test grade. And bad test grade = less than 80%. Why waste time waiting for your golden opportunity to come around when you could be done in the time you're waiting.

But like I said, you will not be successful with a crazy drama filled life. If you do one thing for yourself, get it in order. Nursing school is the biggest sacrifice of time I've ever had to do, and I wouldn't be doing well if I didn't have support from my husband, mother and friends.
