Need a little bit of assistance

I am a recent CNA grad. I have been at my current job for six months at an Assisted Living Place. I get very little help if any at all. In most cases, I would ask for help and get ignored. I would call on the radio and not get a response. One supervisor likes to yell at me and does not like me and therefore does not help. The other one is a little more helpful. I am often criticized when they get the chance and seldom receive any compliments when it is there. It has been basically like this since the day I started training. I ask for help and get very little or none of it. In fact I was not trained on all the floors. I did not tell the director that because I did not know their training process. However, I told the director about the other things, and she told all of us to work as a team. However, it does not always work. Several times I still have to wait 30 minutes for assistance and when I get it, they behave so ******.. Frustrating!!

Anyway, one time I was yelled at by my trainer, because she asked me to fix a situation and I could not figure it out. I asked her for some help, and she looked and criticized me.

Anyhow, I feel lonely and am looking for another job in the field. I do not have any hospital experience nor training, nor acute care training. Is a hospital a better place to look in? How can I get the proper hospital CNA training and where in the San Francisco Bay Area, if you know? Are other Assisted Living/Skilled Nursing Facilities like this? Am I dreaming? Is leaving this job a good idea?

Thanks for your help...P.S. I like to continue helping others, but there are times, (especially as a new grad to the field) that I need help too... I was taught in my training as a teacher to help others as they would do to you...

I am so very very sorry. I can not understand why adults can not do anything but act like kindergardeners. I don't like you so I am not going to be your friend, and I will not going to help you. An adult will think everyone needs help making sure the residents are taking care of. It's their job for goodness sakes!!

You do not need to be abused in such a way. I would look for another job immidiately, BUT DO NOT QUIT YET. From what I hear CAli can be a hard state to secure a job sometimes. You are right that a hospital job might be the hardest to get. They are very coveted, and there can be many people appling for them. I see alot of them also going to nursing students as well then a CNA not going to school for nursing. There are many avenues though for you. Look at other LTC, Retiment homes, Hospice, Home Care (I am a CNA for Home Care and love it) Rehab facilities are also a good place to try to find a job. Look around go to these facilities yourself and ask if they are hiring. Secure a job and then quit this place.

Good Luck and keep us updated. There can be a place where you can feel better about your job and the people you work for

Love, I'm so sorry to hear you had many issues with this LTC facility. It is very rare to find a LTC that isn't chaotic. I had a very cloe experience when I was in your shoes. I was there for 3 months before getting my cert in Phlebotomy and working for a Blood Bank before hearing back from a Hosp.

ANYWAYS...You have 6 months experience in an LTC under your belt so that's a plus. I would apply like an addict to Hospitals and Rehab Facilities. I couldn't do Home Health, but that's just me. It took me a long time to get into a hospital, but the pay and learning experience is the best thing to happen to me because I'm in school for nursing :D

I would apply for every position, but because you don't have hosp experience, it may be much harder to get a FT position. BUT, try to get your foot in the door :D I promise it's much more relaxing and you actually get to spend time with your patient :D

I wish you the best hun and again, I'm very sorry it happened to you :(
