Are there any NGCSU students or accepted Fall 2006 students in this forum? I have recently been accepted for Fall 2006 Forysth/Lanier Tech Location. What does your schedule consist of your first and second year? Where is clinicals held? Can you complete the program earlier than

two years? I notice that the NCLEX pass rate was 84% is that good? For the students that are attending the program how do like it and does the program duible with a family. I am a wife and mother of 1 and 3 year old so I am trying to plan and determine the success rate of doing well in the program. :uhoh3:

Does anyone have a take on whether with a family is it more duible to do 15-18 for a 2-year/ 3year bsn or 6-11 hours for a 2-year ASN What are your thoughts?

Hi Blessone, I have been accepted to NGCSU/Gainesville (although my letter did not specifically say Gainesville, but that is where I applied)so I am wondering if we will be at the same location. As I understand it (from searching all the previous NGCSU posts)our first semester will include Nurs 1020 which is Principles of Nutrition which is a 1hr class and will be Mondays 9:00 a.m. to 9:50. Then Nurs 1100 which is Basic concepts Essential to Nursing Practice which is 5 hrs (2 hours class,9hrs lab/wk). That class is Monday 10-11:50, plus Lab/clinical 6:30A-3:00. I'm not sure where clinical is exactly. I don't really know the Gainesville area. I'm also looking for some answers. I am still waiting on my packet, which I am hoping will fill in some of the blanks. Hey~Congrats on your acceptance!!!!

I just posted to someone about NGCSUs program. See the above post asking for NGCSU students to reply and let me know if you have any other questions! Congrats!!:balloons:

Sweet Tooth,

Congratulation to you as well! Hopefully we both get some clarity. Eagle Girl 06 gave some good information:biggringi :balloons:

Hi Blessone and Sweet Tooth,

Congratulations to you both. As EagleGirl just posted, you will love NGCSU. Just like her, I am a Gainesville Campus student. It is a great program.

As for being able to do it with a family, I am a "mature" student, at age 42, and have a teenager, and have done just fine. There are other students in my class who have children much younger, and they are doing fine too. But, they depend on a good support system, such as parents or a husband, to help them out. The program requires a lot of studying. As long as you stay on top of studying and your assignments, you will do fine.

As for completing the ASN program sooner, it isn't possible. NGCSU does their ASN program in 4 semesters, Fall, Spring then Fall and Spring again. Once you sit for your RN Boards, you can apply to the BSN program. You can do it in 3 or 4 semesters, depending on what you want to do. I hear it is mostly online and is able to be completed while working.

Please let me know if you have more questions. EagleGirl was my mentor, and she was awesome! I want to help out anyone I can, just as she did me and my friends! (thanks again EagleGirl and congratulations on graduating soon! I'll be there!)

Thanks for all the info on NGCSU. Sounds like you guys really love it! Are all your lectures/labs in the Gainesville Science Bldg? Have you had to drive to Dahlonega for anything? Also, I am wondering how many students you have lost and maybe an idea of what type of student would not be inclined to make it. Eagle Girl 06 way to go on your upcoming graduation. I would love to know your plans afterward. Have you chosen your field of nursing yet?

Hi everyone,

Eagle Girl and 12BRN are just awesome. I hope everyone has someone like them to answer the gazillion questions that we newcomers have. I have been accepted to the Fall 2006 at Gainesville too ! Maybe we can consider carpooling ! I live in Suwanee and it's quite a drive. I have a phobia of highway driving and I have to overcome that for the clinicals I'm sure.

I'm so glad to have found others that are going to Gainesville too !

Hi Sweet Tooth,

I do love our program, especially our instructors and the students. All of your lectures, and your labs for the first 6 weeks of 1st and 2nd semester of your 1st year will be at the Gainesville Campus. I don't think we are in the Science Bldg. We are in the Dunlap Bldg. (I'm pretty sure that is the name of it). Then, clinicals start and you are only at the Gainesville campus on Monday's. Clinicals are on Wednesdays your first year and will be at either Lanier Park or the NE Georgia Med. Ctr. main campus. You do have to go to Dahlonega a few times. Mainly for registration your first semester, then orientation at the beginning of each semester. It isn't a bad drive, but I guess that is relative to where you are coming from.

Gainesville campus has about 20 students. We had two people drop out after the first test after they decided it wasn't the best time in their life to commit to the program. It is tough, there is a lot of reading to do on your own. You have to be a self-motivated student, meaning you get lecture, but much of your learning comes from reading the assigned chapters and studying on your own, or in a group, which is what I like to do. Our instructors are very supportive and encouraging and like to see you succeed. Please just ask if you have any more questions. You can post here or PM me.

Hi again Gansu,

I have a classmate and study partner that lives in the Buford/Suwanee area. It isn't a bad drive at all. She said it takes her about 20 mins to get to the college and the hospital (Northeast Georgia Medical). I look forward to meeting you! The 2nd year students are around on Wednesday's, if you have lab that day, so we'll pop our heads in and say hello. I have some great class mates and we all plan on being mentors, just as Eagle Girl 06 was my mentor. She was awesome, and we want to be the same! The Gainesville students tend to be a close knit group. I've made some friends that I am sure I will have for life! Your study partner will definitely become a additional family member! Our class ranges in age from 20 to 50ish, with the medium age being mid-30's. And we all get along great. I'm sure your class will be similar. You'll also get to meet Dahlonega students when clinicals start. My clinical group only had 3 members from my lab group, so they really try to get us all aquainted. Also, joining GANS is a good way to get to know 2nd year students. The meetings are held on the Gainesville Campus on Wednesday's.

Well, it is time for me to get to bed - I have class in the morning. Once again, don't hesitate to ask anything that comes to mind. If you PM me, I will give you my email address.

Take care and good luck to you all!!

Lisa

Eagle Girl 06 Congratulations on your accomplishment of graduating that is awesome in itself I wish you well on the NCLEX exam. Are you going to go and get your RN-BSN or RN-MSN? If so at what school?

12BRN, Gansu & Eagle Girl 06, you guys are awsome with helping us newcomers

I notice that the NCLEX scores was kind of low 83% so do you get thoroughly prepares for the exam. I am still kind of lost because I do not know what the next is after you recieve your acceptance letters and I do not know or heard anything about my satelite location which is forsyth/Lanier Tech which is off of GA 400 exit 13. Does anyone where there clinicals are held? I have all the prereqs and general classes that normally everyone takes so I will be only taking nusing classes so would you say I would have a lighter load?

Hi Everyone,

Thank you ladies, especially Eaglegirl (who helped me last year), and of course Lisa (encourager & supporter/friend 1st year). I am completing my first year at North Metro Tech (which is now moving to Lanier tech). I have two teenage boys, 13 and 16, and I have faired pretty well. It is certainly workable with children.

Sudah- I knew you would get in to NGCSU..... I was talking with a friend of yours from my Micro class. Sorry I haven't called, I will call you this week.

Anyway, it was a tough year for me because I was sick for several weeks and had an overseas trip, but.... I made it successfully. It is a good program. I also had heard that a few people took the 1st year Nutrition class early so they did not have to take it the first semester. I do not know if it is offered this summer, but getting that out of the way, especially if you have kids, would be helpful...but not neccessary.

I had it tough because I had not finished A&P II or Micro so I have been taking them along with nursing, whew!!! It can be done, but you must work hard. Anybody who was put on the waiting list, don't be sad, I was called from the waiting list in July!!!

Let me know if I can answer any other questions,

Juli
