I'm surprised an LPN program is making you take the HESI. I used the RN version of this book and it helped me a LOT, even with the NCLEX exam. http://www.amazon.com/NCLEX-PN%C2%AE-Review-Book-STUDYware-CD-ROM/dp/141604079X/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1216866341&sr=8-2

thank you so much for your advice! i actually have this book so i think i will focus more on it. Did you use the CD inside, by any chance? Did it help??

The HESI requires that you know the basic facts, and test-taking skills to deal with those facts. There is no one book that will do that best. Whatever helps to study for the boards will help with the HESI; that's the whole idea behind it. Saunders is a good choice or Prentice-Hall. Or the Kaplan, especially if you would have access to the Q bank. Most important, do lots of questions and read the rationales on the wrong answers, not just the right ones. Remember they are not trying to trick you; it's all about logic.

I used the cd and found it more helpful than the book. Mostly because the format is a bit different than tests we had taken, even though both were computer based.

I think being familiar with the format made a big difference.
