Someone once told me to read each of your selections as 'true' or 'false.' This helps me quite a bit.

It's hard not to second guess yourself when you are checking so many (and some teachers will often have ALL of them correct while others not so many) You really can't base them off that though.

The biggest thing I've learned when taking a test in nursing school, is to ALWAYS go with your cut and NEVER change your answer. (once I answer a question, I don't look back because that often leads me to changing it)

Someone also recommended this book but I haven't really checked it out much yet (just got it!):

Prioritization,Delegation,and Assignment: Practice Exercises for the NCLEX Examination,2e: Linda LaCharity,Candice K. Kumagai,Barbara Bartz: 9780323065702: Amazon.com: Books

Good luck, just practice, practice, practice!!

My instructor said the select all that apply are glorified true false questions. I've been using that approach this semester and it seems to be helping.

I teach nursing students and often use the select all that apply questions. I tell my students to cover up the other choices and focus on the topic of the question and then read the one choice and ask is this a true or false statement about the question. If it is true then it applies to the question and is a correct answer.

You can use the same approach with "all of the following, EXCEPT" questions too. Same analogy applies but in this case you are looking for the WRONG answer.

The one thing i have noticed has helped so far is not second guessing myself. When I read a chapter then answer the questions in the back I have noticed that when I second guess myself then I get it wrong. In every instance my first guess was correct.

I agree with the true/false route.

but... I will add: I hate select all the apply !

Less is more. One of my instructors says that the greater majority of the students who get those questions wrong, do so because they chose too many answers. Be conservative in your answer selection.
