It's been a long time since my last exam. It was back in 2010. I already went to CA board of nursing website and downloaded the retake examination application. I was just wondering if that is all I need to do. Or do I need to do fingerprint again? I also want to be prepared with the expenses. It's $150 for the retake application and if I remember it right its $200 for the exam fee at pearsonvue. Please advise me if there are other expenses or steps that I missed. Thanks :0)

From what I can recall, CABRN keep your application on file for 2 years from the date you applied. First, you may want to check the letter the board initially sent you, as this information is on there. If such is the case, you won't have to start from scratch with the application process. All you would have to do is send in the reapplication letter with $150 to CABRN and pay $200 to Pearsonvue. Or, call CABRN to check if your application is still active before sending the fee (as I'm not certain if this is refundable if your application is no longer active).
Again, I'm not certain about the 2-year with CABRN. I get this confused with Pearsonvue's guideline...which is to sit for NCLEX RN within 1 year after signing up with Pearsonvue (this info can be found on the confirmation letter from Pearsonvue - this I am sure of).
Hope this helps.

***UPDATE***
I found the letter from CABRN titled "ELIGIBILITY NOTICE FOR NCLEX RN EXAMINATION." I received this letter AFTER I paid $150 for retake. I initially took the exam July 2011 and in December 2011, paid the re-application fee. The last two paragraphs on the letter states:
- The ATT is valid for one a (1) year period. If you do not appear for your scheduled examination appointment or do not take the examination before the one (1) year period expires, you will be required to reapply to the Board and reregister with Pearson Vue.
- PLEASE NOTE: If you do not register and test with Pearson Vue within two (2) years from the date of this eligibility letter, your application will be considered abandoned and you will need to reapply with the Board for the examination and licensure.
Good luck!
