Need help with research paper!

Nursing Students Student Assist

Published

Hello all,

I have a research paper due and topic is social security and geriatrics. I have most of the material and I know what I want to write but I can't find a nursing journal to support my views. I need an article from nursing journal and it has to be within last 5 years. I've searched everywhere and nothing. Please help!

What is your point of view?

Pro social security.

who are the recipients of social security? why do they get it?

what is it about social security that you like?

it is good for the recipients in what way?

how is that related to what nursing does for vulnerable populations?

another reference to check is the ana scope and standards of practice with interpretive statements. those interpretive statements will give you some good, nay, great rationales for nurses to support social security. you can get this definitive nursing publication-- skinny paperback-- from your favorite online bookseller and using it will impress the socks off your instructor.

Position of the paper is pro social security for geriatrics. Without they would be in trouble. For example, it lifts many elderly out of poverty. I found really good articles but I need nursing journal with 5 year recency. Without it, I'd fail. It is worth 10% of total grade.

i really tried.

you'll need more than "it lifts many old people out of poverty" (and it actually doesn't always do that, by a long shot).

ok, more hints.

nutrition. safe environment.

nurses as advocates for vulnerable populations.

nurses as change agents. nurses' responsibility to the public health and being involved in policy matters.

and the s&s, though published in 2004, are the defining authority for our profession. surely you can find some articles written in the last 5 years that reference them, if for some reason your faculty suggests that because they are 8 years old they are inapplicable.

also see ajn april 2004, page 7, diana j. mason, editor in chief, "consider the source." in it she talks about the ajn experience of publishing nursing research."students and nurses engaged in evidence-based practice projects are incorrectly being told to search the literature for the last three to five years. (emphasis in the original) one paper we received took such an approach and missed a significant body of writing on the topic published 20 years ago. we rejected the paper. limiting literature reviews to an arbitrary number of years sometimes wrongly suggests that the best work on the issue occurred recently."

Thanks, I will try that!

I am going to write more than just that. Issues of inability to pay for meds or food and creates a dangerous situation and so on. I have bunch of social security articles from nursing but non are journals. Argh! What is S&S?

the aforementioned ana scope and standards of practice. ana wrote them, they are considered standards for all rns, and most states have cribbed from them generously for their nurse practice acts.

here's the pdf of diana mason's ajn editorial. it's a beaut. sorry i couldn't upload a better copy-- size limits.

Mason editorial.pdf

Thanks!! I really appreciate the help.
