Need help about OSU-OKC

U.S.A. Oklahoma

Published

I'm hoping ya'll could help. I need advice. I'm looking for imput from experienced nursing students.

I have a A.S. and B.S in Business Administration, then I realized my dream is to be a nurse. I'm currently finishing my last pre-reqs to get into the OSU-OKC Nursing program. I've read MANY posts and they don't really apply to me.

My issue is that I'm concerned about not being accepted or put on a waiting list (if they do that). I'm applying for Fall 2011. My GPA went down when I decided to go back to school from a 3.75 to a 3.36. I'm working on getting that back up this semester. I've taken A/P I (OCCC), Micro, Chem (Rose State). And I am taking A/P II (OCCC), Nutrition and Sociology (OSU-OKC) now. I will be taking the HESI 2 test as soon as financial aid comes thru.

So my questions, if you can help-- Do they determine the GPA by when the application is submitted or after the current semester is over?

What is the likelyhood I will be accepted?

I don't have a backup plan, which is why I'm aksing... I don't have another choice but to attend a University because of my already having degrees (financial aid). And the other avenues are rediculously expensive or will take years for me to get close to applying anywhere else.

I left my job in August 2010 to come back to school and with 2 people and minimum income, it's not feasible for me to keep going if I'm not going to get anywhere. The ideal would to be done May 2012. I've talked to many people and one told me that even if I get in, it's a full 2 yr program even with the pre-reqs done. Others make it sound like it's harder to get into nursing school than it is to get into Harvard Law.

Do you know when the acceptance/rejection letters go out for the Fall semester?

What do you think? I've been working on this non-stop since before I left my job, and I've just become overwhelmed and quite frankly, discouraged. I don't have previous medical experience. I was a licensed pharmacy tech, but that has since expired.

What are your thoughts/advice?

Cici, thank you. This wait is really hard but I know we will hear something soon. I'm not a very patient person by nature so it's been very stressful and nerve-racking for me. So are you going to reapply to OSU? Hope you enjoy your break from school. I am currently taking a little break since I'm finished with all my prereqs. It's been nice not to worry about class and tests. We've had lots of quality family time...If i do get in I won't have much time for anything. Good luck to you! Keep me posted on things with you.

haha the wait is hard indeed. i thought we'd have them by now already.

well i am still in school, finishing out my aua. but yes honestly it just wasnt the right time for me for nursing school. but now that i can work and get more of my debt, stupid cc's, it will be alot better. my husband wasnt working at the time so that made it even harder. so i was carrying everything on my shoulders and trust me stuff will come up thru nursing school, BEST THING I can tell you is have a GREAT support system even if it is teachers(which i didnt have at all) they will keep you going. but know you can do it. i had set backs and i know now these things happen. so dont stress.

The wait has been long indeed, but Im thinking we should get letters this coming week. I am a little more relaxed about it now that I know its right around the corner. Hang in there Cici, and good luck. I know if I dont get in this semester theres things I can work on to eventually get in. Im just trying to stay focused, and keep a good attitude. I know nursing school is so competitive, and can bring me down. Im glad to have found this site, and to see all the input from all the other future to be nurses going through the same motions. I hope your situation gets better Cici, and you get back on your feet soon!!!!!!

Ballen, I think you are right about the letters this coming week. Curiosity got the best of me a few days ago so I called the nurse science dept. She told me they are close to getting letters out and figured they would be sent next week. Just want to pass this along and hoping its correct info!! Good luck to all the OSUOKC applicants! I'm crossing my fingers for all of you! I can't wait to hear who all got in. :)

oh finally, its good to know the wait is about over!! Tell us when your letter has arrived. I know I'm going to be checking my mailbox every afternoon for that letter. I was thinking about calling myself, thanks for the info!!

Ballen- you are welcome! If you do wind up calling....keep me posted on what you hear. I hope I'm passing along correct info! I know several friends who have gotten different info when they have called over these past 6 weeks. If you get your letter this week let me know!
