need HELP with Nursing Career

Published

Hello!

I need advice. I took the NCLEX-RN twice, one in California and one in Florida and failed both. Now, before I took the Florida exam, I re-applied for the NCLEX-RN in California, and said that I have to take necessary classes for them to give me the eligibility I needed, thus, I took the Florida boards because I don't want to take classes. Anyways, Now I do not know what to do with my career. I am now stuck. Here I am considering taking the LVN exam, but I do not know which "method" should I take in filling the application form, because I graduated BSN outside the US. I also considered taking classes on being a Dialysis tech, Phlebotomy tech, and Pharm tech. But right now, my mind is so messed up. I don't know what to do. please help.

I need advice. Please.

You will find the answers to the majority of your concerns from the concurrency issue that caused your declination of the ATT in CA as well as a couple of step-by-step process of the LVN application and the several good reads on the LVN issues in the "World" section and under the "Nurse Registration" tab.

Just know that there are several thousand international grads and nurses that have been unable to get approved from the CA BRN since Nov. 2011. Many will be probably be unable to work and practice in CA as there's a 3 year limitation to complete any and all deficiencies, the nearly impossible task of finding a school to offer the said courses as the available spots are very limited and some are quite expensive, with a few that are not so costly. You'll find those school's information also in the above section area to read over.

With the current job shortage as opposed to the perceived "nursing shortage", there's little to no demand for foreign nurses as there's already a glut of US educated nurses unable to find a nursing job and the hiring preferences are going to them. But there have been a few successful international applicants, just not in any proportional way.

If you venture over to the "NCLEX" forum, you'll read of many international students and grads that are also having to re-take the NCLEX-RN more than once, some more than several times and some that don't report back (assuming they have given up) after their many postings. But there are those that do get the good news of passing.

Under that same breath, just know that the first-time passing rate for the international applicants is between 30-35% and that percentage drops with each re-take, this is versus the US grads of 80-85% first-time takers. The stats are posted in the CA BRN and the NCSBN surveys.

Good luck.

Please do not think the LVN exam is a consolation price for failing the NCLEX RN. The NCLEX PN exam requires you to think like an LVN and not like an RN. So beware and study up.

Steppybay is correct above. The job situation is brutal here in California. It's been over a month since I got my RN and still no joy in the job hunting.

thank you for your time in answering. i will consider everything you said.

Oh, of course not. I am completely aware of the difference between them. And of course I will study. It's just that I need to make money so I can pay for the class that the CABON said that I should take and eventually can take the NCLEX-RN exam. And besides the CABON wrote in that letter that I should try to take the LVN exam. But Im still having second thoughts about taking it. I dont know. Im still confused. Well anyway, you should try looking for jobs in nursing homes first, I have lots of friends who start there and work their way up. Good Luck with your job hunting.

The poor economy is due to the people of California and their liberal views and liberal voting, and many big cities in California are not business friendly. Business are moving out of California.

California has a state tax you think business and/or people like that. Many years ago California was the place to go to get a good job, now it a place to move out of and go to other parts of the USA to find work.
