Ok so this is my second exam with excelsior (Health & Safety). I first took on the challenge of Transition to RN (which was pretty easy i think), But for some reason i am extremely nervous for this test. I think its because it seems to easy, i hear lots of people saying not to underestimate this exam. I studied for 2 weeks about 2-3 hours a day using study group 101 and quizlet. So i decided to take the first practice exam which i scored an 80 on, mind you i have never scored over a 66 on the practice exams w excelsior. I feel confident, maybe to confident so i am continuing to go over study group and quizlet a few times and reading through the practice exam again. I plan on taking the practice test B tom. and taking the exam Friday. Sooooo I was wondering if anyone here that has taken this exam can give me some pointers and tips. Like what to focus my study on (Therapeutic comm. i hear is big) do they go into GAS, LAS, vital signs drug calcs? anything is helpful. thank you so much for the help. god bless everyone
you can also email me @ [email protected] I'm in Miami,Fl and would like to study with anyone that on the same test as myself.

I was so nervous for this test, but it wasn't bad at all! I passed with an "A". It took me a little over an hour to take the test (including going through each question twice).
Most of the questions seemed like basic common sense. There were 3 or 4 that I was really stumped on, so I just tried to pick the answer that seemed most of out place of the four choices.
For this test, I'd suggest understanding the nursing process inside and out and backwards. It's not enough to just know "ADPIE". You have to understand what each step entails. Also, understanding the therapeutic nursing approaches would be good.
I think if you take your time and read the chapters for this test you will be ok. I honestly found the Transitions test to be a lot harder, but then again I didn't really study for it and got a "C". I also used the SG101 notes. The practice tests helped a lot for Health Safety.
I did take both practice exams through EC for Health Safety, and surprisingly couldn't get more than a 65% on either of them, so I was nervous for the rest thing. But it turned out to be a breeze.
I'm moving onto Health Differences next, which I'm hoping to have finished the week before Christmas so I can take a few days off.
I think, with your scores on the practice tests, that you'll do fine. This test really wasn't rocket science, it was very straightforward. I remember wishing I had focused more on the different types of communication (therapeutic, deflecting, etc) because I didn't feel as confident on that area as I would have liked.
Thank you sooooo much Beeks, makes me feel much more confident. Unfortunately i didn't go buy the recommended books for this class just sticking to sg101, practice exams and quizlet. I will def. study more on the types of communications and I have been ramming the whole Nursing (ADPIE) process for like 2 weeks lol. I think ill do just fine and with some of your tips i think i will walk in a bit more confident. Thank you so much i really appreciate it and if anyone else has any other tips they would be greatly appreciated!

With an 80 on the practice exam, I wouldn't sweat this one! Good luck. :)
P.S. Before I deployed to Afghanistan I got to spend two weeks playing with traumas at Ryder. So awesome! Very jealous of the pretty rigs I saw pull up to the doors. :)

You're going to do just fine! Those practice exam scores are awesome, you got it in the bag!!! No worries! I'm actually planning on taking mine on Wednesday but have a lot more preparing to do. I did order the books but mainly focus on the studyguide & practice exams. Just passed transitions as well and am looking to move through this program as timely & efficiently as possible. GOOD LUCK!! Like you said, be confident, you will be great! Keep us updated!!
Thank you so much for all the words of encouragement, unfortunately I had to reschedule my exam due to some family issues, but I will be taking this exam next week before turkey day. :) I will keep everyone updated.
