need some help with footwear guys

Published

I cant take it anymore! At the end of the 12 hr+ shift my feet are killing me. I have just purchased a new pair of Nike running shoes, got the DR Scholls inserts and my feet feel like they are going to fall off at the end of the shift. I need a good pair of shoes, regardless of the cost, and want your input as to what you wear. Let me know what you have .....please.

I wear Asics but thats irrelevant.

I tried nursing specific shoes and found them to be substandard. I also went through a half dozen different medical clogs.

You can spend all the money you want on the best shoes there are, but it doesnt mean the shoe you are wearing is correct for your feet.

Because I was having some difficulty aggravated by running (another story) I went to a sports physiologist to have my gait and feet assessed.

It was found that I have very flexible feet and am a mild over pronator. I need to wear a stability shoe. A cushioning shoe will not work well for me no matter how high quality it is.

Later I found that I have overly flexible arches so now I wear orthotics. Now I can run pain free and stand on my feet (or march) for hours and hours without a lot of discomfort.

So, go see a good podiatrist and or physical therapist. It will do your feet and legs wonders. Then get the shoes that are designed for your feet.

What he said......

Get your feet checked out, and see if you need orthotics. Personally I use Nike SHOX, which cost $100, and I have worn them for 6 months without a single foot pain. Now when I have to go to the OR (I can't get our shoe covers over my SHOX) and I put my Klogz on, my feet start hurting right away. No complaint with SHOX, though......definitely worth the extra $$$ (tax deductible, too, along with scrubs)

Another thing you could try is support hose...yes sounds kind of silly but I have friends who swear by them. You can get them at almost any pharmacy and they are cheaper than a new pair of kicks. What I did was go to one of those fancy shoe stores in a big mall and the guy there actually watched me walk and looked at my naked foot (ick) then he recommended a couple of shoes to try and I ended up with a pair of Naots which are absolutely awesome. Nobody can say one specific kind of shoe is the "best" because it depends on how you walk and how your foot is shaped.

What the others have said about a podiatrist is good but this option might be a little cheaper for you and worth a try in my opinion.

Regarding support hose...

There is a link on this website to a store that has support hose with pictures of bones or muscles, kinda cool.
