Hi everyone,
I need to do a presentation about critical care. Any suggestions? I know somebody is already doing ablation, so anything but that would be helpful.
Thanks!

Goal directed therapy in sepsis and septic shock. You could compare and contrast the various pressors and relate receptors, changes in hemodynamics that would be seen, what drug would be better in which problem, patient population, diagnosis, etc.
Line Sepsis
Swan Ganz vs. non-invasive modalities
Sedation and analgesia in critical care
Family centered care
Thank you meandragonbrett. I will look into them

I would second the suggestion of sepsis as a subject. Early goal directed therapy is a hot topic in critical care right now. You might also consider pulmonary embolism and ventilator associated pneumonia.

What type of presentation? What level are you at?

It would be helpful to know if you're an ICU nurse already, or if you are a student in an ICU rotation without previous ICU experience, to know how in depth of a topic you need. In my unit, I assessed that there was a learning need regarding intra abdominal pressure monitoring via a foley catheter. I researched this topic and then gave a presentation to my coworkers about intra abdominal hypertension and abdominal compartment syndrome. I demonstrated the proper technique for obtaining an intra abdominal pressure reading. I guess it all depends on what the learning needs of your target audience are. Another poster suggested sepsis, which is an excellent critical care topic. Another hot topic right now is the argument of tight glycemic control in critically ill patients. Good luck with your presentation!

Another trendy subject is early initiation of antidepressive therapy on patients in the ICU. This is something that is all to frequently missed for both providers and nurses alike to address.
Intra Abd. HTN is another nice subject gaining attention. Personally, VAP is a good topic, but it's a pay for performance topic, and probably (hopefully) been brought up quite a bit.
Goal directed therapy regarding Sepsis is a pretty decent topic, and you have access to A LOT of research / papers on that subject, same with tight glycemic control in the ICU setting.
I have to mirror what ICUnurse1977 stated regarding your experience and type of facility your at. That will have a pretty good impact on the topic / presentation needed.
