Need help with cover letter...stumped!

Published

Hello, I want to apply for a job at a methadone clinic, but I can't seem to find the right wording or get my thoughts organized for a cover letter. I'm usually very good with these things, and I normally just "tweak" my cover pages a bit to fit the job description. But for some reason, I can't do it with this one. I should mention that it's not a posted job, I'm just submitting it in case there's an opening.

I really do have a genuine interest in working with people to overcome addictions.

Any advice would be welcome!

I wouldnt spend much time on it. Make 1-paragraph introducing yourself/skills and availability. Many will argue that nobody even uses cover letters anymore..

I believe they are still effective at times. Especially for this situation as you wish to leave your resume on file with them. Be careful not to put "Interested in Addiction" or "Interested in______" for that matter. That is the quickest way to tell the manager you have no experience.

Specializes in Psychiatry.

Hi!

Cover letters should be short, no longer than two or three SHORT paragraphs.

They are a brief summary of your experiences and interests. It may help to mention that you find it rewarding to help pts recover from illnesses and that you have a passion for patient education.

Addiction IS an illness. You'll have plenty of educating to do with this type of position.

Good luck to you and keep an open mind!

All the best,

Diane, RN
