need help on blood transfusion questions

What type of blood products are administered for the treatment of major blood loss?

What type of blood products are used when massive transfusions are required?

What have you found in your studies? I'm sure that folks here would be happy to help if you first let us know what you have discovered and what area you are having problems.

I am thinking the answer to the first question is packed red blood cells

It might be beneficial if you look up the different types of blood products and what each are used for. From there you should be able to figure out the answers.

For the second question, you might have some difficulty finding answers in your text books because these transfusions are mainly seen in trauma. Try google and look up "mass transfusion protocols" and see what you come up with.

thanks.

Also ckh23-the book basically sucks when it comes to blood transfusions. There is a chart but it doesnt even say which type could be for mass blood loss.I am just having to sift through academic articles I found.

Generally, whole blood is given for acute massive blood loss.

PRBC's are given when a patient has anemia, like that from blood loss.
