Need help/advice on acceptance and GPA, totally in panic mode!!

Published

Ok so I have already applied for nursing school for fall semester 2015 at CSU East Bay and the I just took the TEAS test on 1/28/15 and updated my current application with the grades from my fall semester 2014 all today. After updating my grades, my science GPA took a big hit and went from a 3.5 to a 2.91. That is only because of a C I received last semester, but it is the only C I have and the only grade I entered. Now I am worried because the program I want to get into says there has to be a minimum of a 3.00 GPA. At 3.5, I thought I was fine enough until this latest 2.91 edit on my app.

So I thought I can help myself by atleast doing the best I can on the TEAS today, but I received a 74.7 % which is not what really hoped for because I know there are other students out there who get 90s and higher with a 3.8-4.0 GPA. I was so nervous.

I only was able to apply to one school because of how my TEAS test date ended up being later than other school's app deadlines and East bay is literally 10 minutes away from me. I cannot apply to any other schools because I have to take care of my family as much as I can so East bay would be perfect to go back and forth from home.

Something that looked promising now looks to be in jeopardy just after one day, with a now 2.91 GPA and 74.7 TEAS score, I cannot accept the notion that I may have to wait another year to apply, if there is no schooling for me, I have nothing else to do.

How does my situation look like as of now, what should I be looking forward to hearing in regards to acceptance/rejection. I understand that I am responsible for all this but I still want to be optimistic.

I just needed to get this off my chest because i'm worried, I registered to this site so I can post this. Thanks for reading and any help/advice is welcome, thanks

What do you all think? Any advice/help would be appreciated.

Are you able to re-take the exam to try get a higher percentile and still be considered for Fall 2015? You need to make yourself as competitive as possible to get into nursing school because there are always more applicants than clinical spots.

Hold on, what is your OVERALL GPA? I understand that your science GPA took a hit but is that all they look at or do they also give some weight to overall? I would have some back up plans in place. Is this an associates program? If it is you could spend the year retaking the TEAS and also completing other non nursing classes that you would need for a BSN like history, art, etc.

I cannot retake my exam because my application is due on February 14, and I have to wait about a month to re-take it. It seems like i'm stuck with what I have.

My overall gpa now is 3.2, that went down also. By the way these are my gpas as calculated on my application. In regards to what they look at, i'm not so sure, but I keep on hearing that they put concern on science courses. Also, no, this is not an associates program.

If there is nothing you can do, then there is nothing you can do but wait and make plans for the coming year in case you do not get accepted. Perhaps you can take a CNA class and work as a CNA while you retake your TEAS and perhaps the class you got a C in if they allow it. Being a CNA might also boost your application. Like a said work on any other non nursing classes general ed classes like history, art, etc. I know for me, I've looked at some programs at my community college I might be able to complete in 2 semesters (surgical and respiratory tech) only because if I can get a job as one of these in a hospital and get my foot in the door.

I agree with Aspiringnurse. Either take some classes to boost your GPA, retake your science courses if they allow it to get a better grade. That is, if you do not get accepted. THE MOST important thing is to not dwell on the negativity, rather put your energy and thinking into something beneficial. Such as the suggestion of taking a CNA class, or doing anyting health related. Or even something in your personal life you have been putting off. Time off isn't necessarily a bad thing, it's whatever you make it to be. Either way, I wish you the best. Good luck

Do they offer clep where you take a test over the class? If they do, and you pass the minimum requirement, that can replace your C bc it is equal to an A. Ask your councilors. Best wishes!
