I am trying to sort out the info for Excelsior & need a little help. Can I get study material from eBay, yahoo, etc & contact Pearson to schedule test dates prior to enrolling. Basically I am looking to do this for the core classes if possible. Also, do I have to pay the $190 (3 credit) $220 (4 credit) & $280 (6 credit) for each exam if I am not purchasing the guided learning material? Can someone please get me very clear cut answers to what I will be "required" to pay for other than the enrollment, application, student services, CPNE, grad fees? Thanks so much for helping me sort out all the options a little clearer! Have a blessed day.
So I just got my student card and enrollment papers.. Will E.C. Contact me with my academic advisor
or will I have to ask them. They seem a bit slow on email returns.. Just wonderin how others have fared with academic advisor.. Has anyone here ever use the CLEPS'S for some of the required prereqs.. ?? if so how do they compare to the EC. Test's ..thanks

Anyone doing a preceptorship for EC in Georgia. 12 yrs as LPN and the GBON still wants preceptorship. The new rule change states they will except longterm care but I was told the Longterm care center where I worked was not on her list and that my experience in other clinics does not count.

That is a bunch of crap, nick picking
I have a few questions. I am having a horrible time punching around trying to find info on their website. I was so glad I found this thread... I did notice something on the site about an Information Literacy course. What is that? and someone on this thread mentioned having to take a computer course. Are these two courses required?
My biggest fear is the CPNE. Just the thought of it mortifies me. Are there EC instructors who go to the students area and do the CPNE? And what if you fail the CPNE? A co-worker told me to NOT do EC's program b/c she said another co-worker went through the whole program and during the CPNE she didn't elevate the HOB for a pt. with increased ICP and she failed. She said that mistake made her fail not only the CPNE but the entire program. Is this how it works?
Also, is an AS or AAS degree the same as an ADN as far as getting jobs, getting into a BSN program etc?
Those are the only questions I can think of at this time.. Thanks!
Hi Mjm,
I am in the same boat, I have been gathering information so I can make up my mind. I am currently in a traditional setting working on my prereqs. And it sucks...lol
As far as CPNE my co-worker just graduated from EC. According to her, the examiners do allow you to repeat a skill when you fail...I am not sure under what circumstance they allow you to repeat or how many your allowed, but I got the impression that they do give you a chance to prove your competency. I did hear years ago that examiners did fail you for small things with no chance of repeats.....(Maybe someone with more knowledge rearding the CPNE will chime in)??
By the way she no problem with finding a job, she left our rehab floor for a position in the ICU in at another hospital. She did the whole program while working full-time and 4 Kids. I was so impressed I just had to take a serious look at EC again.
I am so tired of these nursing programs...sticking it...to us. Eager LPN's trying to get ahead and they make it so hard. Just this semester...my school announced that all prereqs must carry a 3.0 and a overall GPA of 3.2
I get so mad and hurt over this....I currently hold a 3.7, but it happens that in one of my writing courses I got a 2.8 So guess what....THAT'S RIGHT....I have to retake that class.
Just because I don't have a 4.0 does not mean that I am not a good nurse or competent nurse. I began nursing 22 yrs ago and a LPN for the last 15 yrs. We are eager to learn and ready for the challenge but today they make it so hard for us. Don't get me wrong, Yes we need to be prepared...lives are in our hands...but...give us break....we are already NURSES!!!
I love everything about EC Program....except the fearful CPNE. But considering what I am dealing with out here in traditional programs, I'd rather take my chances with EC. Plus, the CPNE is a few days not months and months of clinicals...
I really don't want to waste anymore time or money so I must make a decsion soon.
Good Luck and best wishes.
