Hi everyone! I'm a foreign grad nurse looking for a job in US. Adevia is assisting me in looking for an employer. If you are familiar with this recruitment agency, I would appreciate your comments. Thanks so much....:)

As I have mentioned in all of my other posts, be very leary of the agencies that are operating out of the UK. Remember that they are going to be getting a fee from the hospital, why shouldn't you get ll of the money. Plus some of the hopsitals where they have tried to place people, no one wants to work there.
You are much better off going as a direct hire, especially from the UK.

Yeah I've heard stories about agencies getting cut from nurse's salaries. That's why I'm keen in choosing which one I should commit to. Thanks for the precaution, suzanne! :)

I came to the US with Adevia and they were great! They were very sweet and helped me with everything I needed. They were better than the other UK agencies I looked into. They did not charge me, or keep a hold any of my documents like the other agencies do. (I have heard about agencies keeping nurses CGFNS certificates or NCLEX letters, unless they pay!)
They do not hire nurses, but help them meet the requirements and then find positions directly with the hospitals. This was good for me because I only wanted to be in Dallas (my brother is here) and I could check out the hospital before I accepted signed anything. My hospital paid for everything and I even got a 2 bedroom flat when I got here. Since I have arrived (2 months ago) it has been great. The hospital is amazing. The other nurses here are very nice and help me with anything that I need. The shifts are great (only 3 per week!) and the money is better than I could ever make in the UK.
Overall, my experience has been great and I would recommend going with an agency... they took the worry out of the process and my consultant was very helpful. Nursing in the US is great for anyone that is up for it... it is much better than the UK.

Thank you for the inputs about adevia. They interviewed me yesterday and they are currently looking for a prospective employer. I'm just wondering about the benefits that they gave you. I hope you don't mind elaborating. Did they reimburse you with the exam fees? How about signing bonus and this "settling program"? How long did it take them to process everything? Also, I heard stories about agencies taking a large share of nurse's salary. Did you get a fair pay? Please enlighten me. Thanks!

Hi. Just a quick note about agencies and going it alone. Direct hire is ???. Have you made contact with nurse recruiters yourself ?.
Any advice gratefully accepted, NCLEX and CGFNS over thank heavens.
Redards. Barb.
You do not pay the agency but the hospital does, the agency isn't working for free. So shouldn't the money be in your pocket instead? Why can't you contact some hospitalls directly? You get a much bigger selelction that way, and if you have already paid for your exams, what help is the agency actually going to be for you?
Your choice, but the money is always better going directly to you.......... :balloons:
Yes I realise all that but contacting hospitals direct and trying to speak to the relevant personnel is proving quite problematic especially if you keep getting through to voicemail and no response is made!!! Anyway I would like to secure a position direct with a hospital or home care organisation but I am finding it difficult to establish if they will petition on my behalf. Most people i speak seem very vague about this.
Thanks anyway, any further info gratefully received Barb

Hello. I've been in a situation like you. I did phone almost all hospitals in California where I'm very keen to work. You're right, either no reply made if message left to answering machine or they are not sponsoring foreign nurses. I did post my CV/ resume to nursing center/career website and from there, I got a lot of reply from american based agent connected to California Hospital. Interview with CNO of my prospective employer/ hoapital was set through telephone by my agent. Fortunately, all goes well and my papers were on process for green card and hopefully to start work in L.A., California next year.

I posted my interest in Adevia as a foreign nurse I passed all the required exams that was required in order to get into the fastrack service that they advertised. I was also interviewed and i did well on that. finally waited for couple of days, called them up and the agent representative told me i did well in the interview. Waited for week & finally they told me that i need to have experience in western country in order to qualify, i was really devastated. Anyhow HCCA international hired me send me for NCLEX passed now im expected to arrive in US by March 2005, isn't it great thanks to a great experience with nursing recruitment agencies.
