I graduated in May of this year. I was given all the top awards in my class including best hands on student in clinicals. i passed my boards on the first try. And I have been a cna for 3 years before graduating as an LPN. I was given a nursing job at the center I have been working at for 3 years. On Tues, the charge nurse called and told me I was suspended. She said there was a complaint against me, but would not tell me what the complaint was, the resident or anything. Later this week I found out what it was. A geri patient claimed that I made him take a laxative. What happened was he took half of it and then screamed at me when I offered him another drink. FYI: he got mad at me last week when I wouldnt remove his Foley w/o an order. Can antone tell me what to do or offer any similar instances and what they did. I am at my wits end, it just feels like I wasted 2 years in school. Because now I dont even know if I want to be a nurse. HELP!!!

Well, I'm sorry no one's responded to your post!
I don't have any real advice for you - I just graduated myself in May. However, something smells fishy (on your employer's end) to me...I realize that "forcing medication" on someone is abuse, but doesn't your manager realize you're dealing with dementia patients? And I will never understand managers who write their employees up, or discipline them for something but refuse to tell them what they're being disciplined for...that always makes me think something's "up" with an employer.
You can't give up! Lots of people's first jobs out of school suck...you just have to move on. I've seen tons of threads around here about people leaving jobs after they've only been there a short time. As I recall, most of the advice I've seen seems to say to find another job, then just explain at the interview that the previous job just wasn't a good fit. One of the reasons I got into nursing is because there are just soooo many different things you can do as a nurse. You can work with babies, cancer pts, school kids, home health care...tons of stuff out there.
Good luck to you!
Is anyone out there? I need to know what to do. I feel like I am going crazy. I am being falsely accused by a vindictive old man!
Thanks jessica. I quit there today because I had another employee call me and tell me that the DONs best bud was going around telling people that I had been fired. I also got her on a voice recording admitting that I wasnt told this until the next day. I am just ready to give up. Do you ever feel this way?

nitewarrior,
You're so much better off than to continue to work for an organization that would treat you that way. There is better employment out there, I'm sure of it.
Not to worry, none of your schooling was wasted. Perhaps your standards of care were just a bit too high for your former employer. Good riddance to them.
Best of luck with a new, better employer.

I can't help, as I'm just starting nursing school - but I wanted to say you'll probably get more replies if you post this in another forum - maybe "first year of nursing" or general nursing. This forum doesn't have a lot of traffic.
HTH and good luck!
