my son just got stung by a bee and his knee is red and swollen. I imagine that its normal, but should I be concerned right now? He is crying and says it hurts alot. Should we go to the hospital or just wait it out? He's never been stung before, but allergies to bee stings run in the family.
I dont want to overreact, but at the same time I dont want anything to happen to him!
Is there anything I can do to help him right now?
Thanks
jolie, i posted on here because my family dr is only in the office on Mondays and Wednesdays. If I had called, I would have gotten voicemail. And unfortunately, in the area where I live, there are no other dr's to call. my only other option was to take him to the ER. I figured that there are enough people online here throughout the day that i'd get a quick response (which I did, thanks again to those who offered advice!) and considering most people on here are RN's or RPN's, I felt I was in good hands!
BTW, my son is feeling much better today!

I just now noticed that you are in Canada. Is the limited availability of your doctor typical there, or are you in a rural area? I'm spoiled. My pediatrician lives right behind us! Glad your son is better today!

Please don't misunderstand me; I'm not trying to be harsh or judgemental, but I don't understand why you would go to the internet for advice on a potentially serious health-related issue during weekday hours when your pediatrician should be in the office. I can understand not wanting to over-react and go to the ER unnecessarily, but why not just call the doctor's office? Seems like a quick and easy way to get sound medical advice.
Glad to hear that nothing serious came of it. Hope your little guy is feeling better!
