I have a friend who is a traveler who asked my advise and I haven't a clue. Please help if you can. She received her license in a compact state but didn't live there and she started traveling and thought she had a cosmpact license but didn't. The travel agency she worked for didn't catch it either. She left as soon as she found out but what should she do. Please any advise will be appreciated...thanks

First thing she should do is find out why she got licensed in a compact state but doesn't have a compact license. Then she needs to contact the BON and find out what she needs to do to change it. The fact that she removed herself is good, that shows she had no intention of working fraudulously.

the nurse licensure compact is a deal that was put together by the national council of state boards of nursing. the states that participate in it have to pass laws allowing them to do so. basically, unless the state doesn't participate in the compact, your license from a compact state isn't good there. however, if a person has a valid license in one state, they can always apply for endorsement in another state. that is always an option that has been available to every licensed nurse. you have to get the specific endorsement rules from each specific state board website. you can link into the state board websites from allnurses. click on the "links" tab above, then click on "state boards of nursing". click on the state you want when the page of links comes up and you're in business!

here are links to the official website where you can find out more information about the nurse licensure compact, including the states that participate in it. the compact is something that was developed and is administrated by the same group, the national council of state boards of nursing, that writes the nclex exam.

my best wishes to your friend.
