Need advice about taking California board exam while being a dual citizen

Hi everyone. I'm new here, and just want to know if anyone can help me get info about my problem.

I'm a dual citizen of Philippines and Canada. I'm about to graduate as a BS in nursing in the Philippines and wishing to work in California.

can anyone give me an advice of the steps that I should do to be able to take the California nursing board exam?

yes I've thought about getting a license in Canada, I've asked already (I do have a canadian passport)... they say I would have to do refresher courses (which I don't have the money for it) to be able to do the exam because I didn't graduate in Canada.

so I really have to do the local boards in philippines.

so let's see.... take the local boards in manila, take the NCLEX (it's already offered in manila)... work for a bit to get training in the philippines.....

what should I do next?

get a working visa to go to USA? then apply to take California board exam?

:scrying: so many questions.... sorry

To enter the US as a Canadian Citizen you will need a job offer. To have a job offer you will need a job so you can secure a social security number. In California you need a social security number to get a license. It is a catch 22.

First step is get your local license and pass the NCLEX. Who knows what the job situation will be like here, it seems like the economy is taking a dive each day.

A Canadian citizen without a TN visa can apply at a U.S. port of entry with all of the following:

Request for admission under TN status to Department of Homeland Security, Customs and Border Protection, U.S. immigration officer;

Employment Letter - Evidence of professional employment. See Employment Letter below;Proof of professional qualifications, such as transcripts of grades, licenses, certificates, degrees, and/or records of previous employment;

Proof of ability to meet applicable license requirements.

You would have to find a position which will hard unless you have a connection. A job offer

oh job offer.... I hope that my relatives would come in handy on that part. (what are relatives are for hahaha) wow all of this just to work outside of the philippines? wow.....

next thing in mind. when I get a job offer does that also include my family (husband and son?) there are things like that right? or is all a dream for me?

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

Your family can go with you but I do not think with a TN visa that your husband can work unless he gets his own visa.
