Im new to this but need advice about my new job.
WOW...Thanks everyone for responding. I can't believe the support system here. Im a bit embaressed to tell my sad story but here goes... I took my ca. boards last tues. and had 265 yuck! questions. I knew I must of failed... I haven't seen my results on the website so im 99% sure I failed. I heard everywhere if you don't get your results in 3-4 day you failed and wait 2 weeks to recieve the letter. I got a job with an Intern Permit and went to orientation today. I sat there all day thinking I shouldn't be there. Now I have another day of orientation tomorrow and thinking of not going anymore b/c Im sure I failed. I tried to call the boards to verify if my IP is still active which would determine my results but kept getting a busy signal. What to do? Should I go orientation tomorrow still or what?
Almost there but not....
Dont automatically assume you failed okay? Go to work and if it does turn out you didnt pass, talk to your employer in a positive fashion about what your options are. Let them see your desire to work, a positive & upbeat attitude...."I will pass the 2nd time, learning experience, etc"..... Employers dont want to hire someone with a defeatist attitude. (excuse my spelling...where is the spell check on here anyway??)
Keep your chin up, think positive, go to orientation! Also, I would assume that you would be notified right away if your temporary permit has expired....liability issues for the state and so on.
Well... I went to orientation still with the same feeling as yesturday. But I gained alot of information. Wow... it was alot too. I wish I could have gone through the orientation before taking the test. But Im even more sorry to say I didnt pass. I got the news and somehow I wasn't too surprised. I wanted to cry but I didn't. I just dont know where to start again. Especially with the NCLEX getting harder and changing the test format. Im not sure I can go through this again. It's killing me! But no choice because it's my only ticket to supporting myself one day :) . Any advice on where to start again and how?
Because right now all I wanna do is crawl into a fetal position, hide under my covers and just block everything away.
Im not a great test taker... I think a big problem is my nerves getting the best of me, that it impairs my thought process. Yup, thats my ngs. dx; Altered thought process related to anxiety, secondary to taking the NCLEX exam.
Now Im gonna have to call my employer and tell them the bad news tomorrow...OHH no!!! Well, wish me luck!
To everyone... like I said earlier, I cant believe the support system here. You have all given back to me something special through your words of insight, encouragement and strength. Hope get to where you are....
Almost there....
I am so sorry to hear the news. This can not be an easy time. Give yourself a break and when you are ready climb back onto the NCLEX saddle. You made it through nursing school, YOU CAN, I REPEAT CAN pass the NCLEX. Let us know how you are doing. When you are ready, make a study plan. You are not the first or last to not pass. Remember others have gone through what you are feeling. Were here to listen.

Thank you NOCODE... That is so true... Everything you said... Im going to stay positive and give the same energy I gave when I got hired. They did tell me it was my energy that got them when they first interviewed me. Im going to practice tonight how im going to tell them and what im going to say for tomorrow. Wish me luck.... Ohhh... and well... I just found out I didn't pass .... Thanks for the encouragement and advice. It means alot.

I just finished my nursing program and found Saunders NCLEX Review (Green Paperback) to be very helpful. I mostly used the CD-Rom to study for the exam. I took the Kaplan course as well but found that Saunders has very comparable questions. Hope this helps.

Thanks thats really helpful. Is Kaplan worth taking? Should I invest in it? I did see the Saunders book and planning to buy the book. But the Nclex is changing so Im not sure if I should wait for the new book 2004 to come out?!?!![]()

I don't know if they have this for the NCLEX or not, but for the medical licensure test they have Q-bank which is a huge bank of questions that are similar to the actual test. This is usually MUCH cheaper than the full program.
I found it to be extremely helpful for the Step I for medical license.
Perhaps this would be an option.
Hi ,I think I felt the same way with you when I found out about my test result.I had failed twice from CGFNS test and twice from TOEFL test (english test )in the past 1 year and 3 months in USA but finally I have passed TOEFL test.I keep telling myself failure from the tests can't be judge people from succeed or failure .Nursing is very wide subject so you have a chance to see the questions you are familiar with very rare. Thanks so much for the advice. I don't have many people to talkto which is why Im blessed to have found this site. So you really think I should go huh... I just would hate to let the people who hired me down, when I fail. I feel like such a failure...But if and when it does turn out I failed then i'll just humble myself and persevere as always. Thanks soooo much!!

I'm waiting for interim permit license and still keep telling myself If somebody else can do it I think I can too.
I hope you are ok and use 3 months from now to be serious with study :)
Best wishes for you .
AND NEVER EVER GIVE UP:balloons:
I have good news and bad news... The bad news is I told my employers about not being being able to work as an IP anymore. But they too were so supportive and said theres always one who doesn't make it. They made me feel so good. They even offered to give a lower posotion as an aide but I declined since I still have my per diem job at another hospital. But the good news is they said there would be a job waiting when I do pass so that was nice to hear. But Im not going to focus on anything else except passing the boards....
Thanks everyone for the support...

Hang in there! :) I remember how waiting for the results can blow your mind. I agree with everyone who says that you may have still passed so don't worry yet!
If the results are not what you hoped, you can study a little more and go for it again. Many nurses(and lawyers too) don't make it the first time around. Sometimes we get so nervous, it works against us. The next time, you will know exactly what to expect and you WILL KNOCK THEIR SOCKS OFF!! :rotfl:
You are in my prayers!!
