Need some advice.

Hi,

I'm about to finish up my last 4 classes before applying for nursing programs. My other options right now are to go for dental hygiene or radiology tech.

The thing is I am starting to freak out if nursing is for me.

Mainly, it is the body fluids. I am not sure I can handle them.

I sort of have a phobia of vomit and it sends me into a little panic attack.

Do you think this is something I can get over? Is there a way to avoid it as much as possible?

I was thinking of not working in a hospital but working in a ob/gyn office if I could.

What are most nursing programs like? How are the clinicals?

Specializes in telementry, medsurg, icu, surgery.

I dont mean to be harsh, but if body fluids are not your thing...you may want to consider another career path outside of the healthcare field! Take it from me....I was a dental assistant for the past 8 years..their are plenty of "body fluids" in that field as well! Clinicals in nursing school are very hands on, by that I mean TOTAL PATIENT CARE!! YOU bathe the pt, YOU turn the pt, YOU change the pt...ITS ALL YOU! This is not a field for the weak! It takes a very special person to become a nurse and most ppl feel that it is their calling! I think you may need to educate yourself a little more before choosing a career path in the healthcare world! Its not all guts and gore, but it may be a thing that you can over come..you never know! Best of luck to you in whatever you choose to do.

Hey head up! year my first 3 years sucked but now that i'm almost done its awesome! there are so many avenues i could do! community, mental health, programs coordinating, schools, audits, government..ect. not all nurse work in the hospital. My degree will open many doors in health. Yes you have to get through the program but its a short period in ones life for a potential high and very rewarding pay off. Truely how long are your placement? 6-8 weeks at a time
