Hi Everyone,
Well let me start by saying I have never failed at anything I have started in life and I dont want it to be the NCLEX.
I graduated in 2007 and I attempted the NCLEX 3 times. Most of my items were above passing except for a few each time. I already have a child and responsibilities so I just took a regular job and didn't think about the NCLEX again.
I'm in SC and we have a 3 yr. limit on taking the NCLEX but NC does not, so I have registered with them and I can retake it.
Since I have been out of school for so long do you think this would even be possible for me to do? I pretty much remember most ever thing I learned in school b/c I have re read most all my textbooks since just to keep it fresh.
Or what advice could you give me on preparing for it since I have been out of school for so long. I had a friend who took it 7 times b/f she finally passed and she was right at the end of her 3 yr limit. She took Kaplan 3 times and even tried a private tutor and finally after the 3rd kaplan she passed. She said it just clicked and she wasn't scared anymore.
Any advice you can give me will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Nick

Hey Miami76
Well judging by your name you probably live in Miami and if that is the case it would be hard for me to study to, lol.
Yes everyone keeps saying the same to me "you need to go re-take your NCLEX." Also, I try not to look at it that I failed, I just have not passed yet. Remember "You only fail when you stop trying". If you could only take it once then yes you failed. You just have not passed yet and well nether have I.
As for studying, yes it is hard to start back but I have noticed from starting kaplan I have not forgot that much. It starts coming back to you the more questions you answer. As for you wanting to go back to A&P that would be a waste of time. I would think pathophysiology would be better to look at b/c you want to know what effects the body and how a disease process would work, so to speak. A&P would just be basic knowledge and I'm sure you remember that stuff.
My plan is to take the kaplan program first and then do the Hurst review as well as some other question trainers. Remember its all about how to answer those questions. If it were all about knowledge we would have passed the first time, right? We can do this but it will take dedication and support from others. I would like to take the test towards the end of July.
Really go through this site and read how people have passed, there is a lot of useful info on this site. I wish I had seen this a long time ago. Everyone is very willing to help with notes and study material.
By the way a girl in my kaplan review class grad. with a 3.8 GPA and she has taken it 2x already. Some of her friends took it and passed with 75 questions but have already lost there licenses b/c they were over confident and killed a patient. So just look when we pass how great nurses we will be b/c we will know what it means to get that RN beside our names and we will be very diligent in caring for our patients.
Don't know your money situation but the Kaplan is around 400 to 500 but they do run deals and look online for coupon codes. I got mine for $300 and put it on flex pay for $100 a month. Hurst review is $300 but no discounts on that one that I have seen. It seems to cover more content and that's what both of us will need. I am just taking kaplan for strategies and they have put some new drugs on the NCLEX and they are reviewing those with us now. Also study the drug classes. You can not remember all the drugs you just have to know the most common and then what side effects or those have. Hurst may help with that.
Well hope this helps some what.
