need advice on new job

Published

Hi all. I am back again after being out for awhile. I am now in SC and having a hard time believing how bad the job situation is here. There are very limited jobs and the only place to really make any money is in the hospitals - as it is so many places. My question is this - I recently interviewed for a position with a nearby hospital and I thought it was general med-surg, came to find out thru the interview the floor is actually orthopedic and bariatric. I have never really worked with bariatric patients before and am wondering what this will be like. It is a part time night position. I know that ortho can be hard and involves alot of lifting, I am assuming the bariatric will be even harder. The manager already told me there is usually only 1 CNA at night, and that some of the staff can be difficult at first. I am a little nervous about looking at this position but am going thru with the next interview next week just to see if I can get a better feel of it. Apparently the staff will interview me next. Any ideas on this? I am currently getting unemployment but once I begin a job it will stop.

The other job I am being considered for is in psych, which I do have experience in but it is only PRN and the staffing is low compared to what I am used too. However, this is a big hospital system and I know once I get in I can work on getting something more permanent down the road. The pay is also pretty good. With this job I could technically keep looking and when I can't work still collect my unemployment......

Thanks for any input you have - I just don't want to take any job and then be unhappy about it, you know?

Specializes in ER.

Red flags go up for me when the manager says some of the staff is difficult to work with on the ortho floor. Bad sign. If you like psych I would be inclined to take this job instead.

Agree with above poster.

I don't suffer fools gladly, so...I wouldn't want to work in that environment.
