I know how to get all the info I need, that is not my problem. I am having trouble getting the info onto a 5x8" index card by printing it from my computer. I have a drug book and I also have the Mosby drug cards 2005 so all the info is here but when I type it into my computer and I even set the parameters on the computer (Works) and I print it it does not print right. OR I set the printing options to print it to fit the page and I end up with such tiny lettering that it is hard to read.
I would like to know how you all did your cards. I do have to do my own cards and not use the Mosby's that i have as my prof will only let us use our own taht we made otherwise we have to memorize all the info on the Mosb'ys and I am not ready to memorize the drig cards verbatem yet. I have a ton of work to do already and an exam tomorrow which i am freaking about. :) Also, I have tried doing it on the computer and printing it to paper and cutting ti out and I seem to get really long cards taht all do not match in size and my prof is picky about everything being uniform and neat. (eeek! ) I guess I stink on the computer huh?
Help me please... :)

Ditch the computer-hand written in a format (and size) that works for you with abreviations that you know- keep all your cards- you will see repeat drugs and will not have to rewrite them for the next patient and you will retain the info.

I'm getting ready to graduate and what worked for me these past 3.5 yrs is typing up all my drug info(G,T,C, MOA, SE, NI, etc) onto disks. I actually formatted them onto my nursing process tool. I kept a log on my hard drive that I was able to see - Insulin week 2/200 or week 5/300 - and was able to find the info on the disk. I cut and paste all my drug info onto a sheet for my patient on clinical day and keep it with me for quick reference. If you want to, I will be happy to send you a sample. And trust me, I am no computer whiz, just don't like writing all that stuff up! Good luck!

To the other girl, Writing it out does help me to retain info and I am nto sure what I am doing now. I may go back to taht, NUT I do have to have all this info in my NCP so I will have to write(Type) it all out again and just do not have the time to keep doing all my drugs over and over again every week. But thank you for the advice. Hey, If nothing else works thne writing it out is a wonderful idea. :)

I would also appreciate a sample if you wouldn't mind! I start Pharm next semester and am already trying to plan out my strategy. Thanks, SG

I made a template in Word that will print on an 5 x 8 card. On my printer, it even prints in between the lines on the lined cards. You'll probably have to play with your printer some to get the alignment set right, but it shouldn't be too hard once you've got the template. On really long drug cards I just set the font at a 7 or 8 to get it all to fit on the front and back. I can send it to you.
I will be happy to send you a copy, hopefully my email will work properly.

I graduated long before computers and had to resort to pen and card. I think you will do yourself a dis-service if you just copy from a computer. There is something about writing down pertinent information in a format that only YOU can understand. Of course, I am that kind of learner, and I need to write things down, but once I do, they never leave my brain. Good luck.

It is summer break for me. I just completed PHARM! I had to hand write my drug cards because I couldn't figure our how to do it on the computer. We have a huge list of drugs that we have to have done by the time we return from summer break. If you have a template you can send me..please do! I have MIcrosoft Word 2007. thank you sooooo much!

easiest way to do it is to use 8 1/2 x 11 card stock paper, do your meds as a power point presentation and print it as handouts i think i did two per page and they came out about 4 x 6 inches. then use a paper cutter to cut them apart ( i have one from my scrapbooking days.)
