Hi everyone,
I'm hoping some of you fellow nurses and nursing students can give me some help.
I am feeling overwhelmed right now with the thought of not getting into CU or Regis. I really want to go the route of BSN and don't want to go to DSON if I can avoid it. Nothing against DSON, I just have heard stories about professors and I'm a single mom, so the idea of getting a private loan for that much is horrifying. ;-)
I am a member of my community college's honor society so I have a pretty high GPA overall, however my science GPA is not so good. Does anyone know if the schools take into account BIO 111 (pre-req for A&P) or just the pre-req science courses? Depending on if they do, I could have anywhere from a 2.5 to a 3.0 in my science GPA, which obviously the former wouldn't be good at all. Basically I got a C in both AP1 & AP2...horrible professor, just terrible!!! I'm still mad about it, can you tell? ;-) So basically, I'm thinking maybe I need to retake one or both of those classes, but I just don't know if I have the time. I work full-time and take 3-4 classes per semester, so it's difficult. But I still have managed to get almost all A's in the rest of my classes, just a couple of B's.
Basically I'm wondering if the fact that I'm on the honor society, will have excellent recommendations, consider myself a pretty darn good writer, work for a very well respected science oriented organization, volunteer and have overcome adversity (teen mom) will give me an edge and help offset my poor grades in A&P. Does anyone have any thoughts? I'd REALLY love some help!
Thanks so much!!!
December as well! Since I'm going to take Pathophysiology to get that out of the way, it's only offered online in the summer and I really think that's something I should be taking in person. Will you be able to take it before you start? My friend who's at DSON now HIGHLY recommended I do that! Do you know which Algebra they count, is the highest one, College Algebra or does the one before that suffice? If it's College Algebra, then I'll be taking that and Statistics in the summer. I was going to maybe start in October, but since she really recommends taking Pathophysiology I thought I'd do that and get a little bit of a break before the intesity starts. ;-) Taking one class is a break for me. LOL So we'll be starting together in January!!! :)
Yes you need to take College Algebra, I think it's Math 121 at the community college level?
bfrdncr41 - Oh wow, how funny! Where did you take it? I'm considering possibly taking it this summer so I can start in October, however I really feel like it's an important class that I should take in person, not online, what do you think? If I do spread it out and start in January, I'm debating whether to take Algebra and Statistics this summer so I can take Pathophysiology alone, what do you think? Which do you think would be better to take with it if I went that route?
Sand_Dollar - wow 4 classes...so glad this is my last semester with 4 classes...until DSN that is! ;-) I took Micro and AP2 and 2 other classes last semester, that was brutal! How old are your kids? I have a 15yo son...hopefully they remember us after school is over. lol
Thanks ladies!!!

I took patho in CA b/c I was still living there at that point. I took stats at the same time and did well in both classes, but patho is definitely a VERY important class. If you can I would take it by itself. I would also take it in a classroom and for the full duration and not a summer session.
Thanks so much! Where in CA did you live? I'm from SF originally. :) I've been here for about 5 years tho, what's the nursing school situation like out there?
I'm from Orange County. The wait lists are insane there and the bachelor's programs have about 900 people applying for 40 spots. I didn't want to wait any longer and had always wanted to live in Denver. It all worked out well for me. Good luck to you!

Who is your friend? I was one of the group of 6 that took patho before and my first quarter was much less stressful that's for sure.
