Need Advice From Students And Nurses

HI: I Would Like To Get Some Advice About The Following: My Family-child And Husband And I Currently Live In Nc, Where My Husband Has A Pretty Good Job. I Have Been Accepted To A Private School For My Bsn Where They Have Taken All My Prereqs And I Do Not Have To Retake Any Due To A Time Limit. I Am Really Considering This Program In Virginia, Because It Would Save Me A Year's Worth Of Time--because Of The School Taking All Of My Credits. Right Now, My Husband Has Put In For A Federal Job And Has A Real Shot At Getting It, And Then I Would Not Have To Work--my Question Is--if There Is A Delay On Employment For Him In Virginia, I Am Really Thinking About Attending This Program--even If I Have To Commute. My Classes Would Only Be About Two Days Per Week, And I Could Stay With Friends There, If I Leave My Family In Nc At First...then I Can Go Back And Forth. I Have Looked At Schools In My Area, And Most Of Them Would Not Take Any Of My Credits--because They Are Too Old And It Would Take Like A Year To Get In--i Think With This School In Virginia, It Is My Best Choice Due To The Time Factor And Not Having To Repeat Any Courses. What Do You Guys Think About This, As Far As Commuting Back And Forth? I Would Only Be There Two Days Per Week--and Then The Drive Is Only Three Hours. Please Give Me Your Feedback. I Am Considering This Because I Really Would Like To Broaden My Options For Employment. I Currently Have A Masters Degree In Counseling And Like-ten Years Of Experience, But Jobs Have Been Quite Scarce....i Don't Really Feel That I Have The Same Marketability--in Counseling As I Would Nursing--I Also Feel Like Time Is Just Passing Me By Being Unemployed, When I Can Do Someting More Productive Like This Nursing Program. Hi Heather - I gather hubby's new job is in Virginia??? I did the commute thing when we lived in Alaska and school was 110 miles one way. Not exactly a piece of cake, but it can be done. If hubby isn't looking at a job in Virginia, then I guess that is where I see the problem. Or...if hubby and child are staying in NC - commuting might get more difficult. Good luck with the decision.

looks like you might have to decide whose career is taking first place for the present. No matter what you decide, if Hubby does not agree it may create problems. Commuting is horrible. I only commute 1 hr but dread it every time.

he will actually take the job in VA as soon as he hears--but, I actually meant if there was a delay on that-I would just start the program and stay in VA two days per week--not drive that far each day. He supports me on the program,--we just have to make sure that he has a job before he leave this one. Thanks for your opinion. heather/

I commuted for a bit while in school -- missed my kids an awful lot on he nights I stayed over. It worked. My husband and I were committed to making it work. It wasn't easy though -- all sorts of stressers involved. If I could have done it differently, I probably would.... however, it was the best option for us at the time..... we just MADE it work.
