i need advice from a more experienced nurse or student !

Published

Hi,

I am a college freshman and I am studying nursing. At my school the nursing program is competitive, which means you are required to take your pre-recs first, then HOPEFULLY ( key word ) get accepted into the nursing program for your junior year. I've talked to people who've got accepted, and one girl told me it took her seven tries to finally get accepted. On top of that, she told me she had a 3.8 GPA all through out college.

Pretty much I just need advice on other routes. I plan on being a RN. But I do not know what I should do. Any suggestions on what I should do to get experience in nursing while also going to school to become a RN? My worst fear is to waste years in college on something I could of achieved quicker. Should I go for a LPN, or something lower than a RN? I'm just so confused..

Any help/comment counts!

Thanks (:

Also, any school suggestions ? I'm also looking to transfer schools next fall. To anywhere else but here !

If you're at a 4-year university, generally, BSN (Bachelor's in Nursing) programs are pretty competitive to get into. Look into local community colleges' ADN (Associates in Nursing) programs and try to find out how long their waiting lists are. If your local ADN programs have crazy waiting lists (I know the ones in Central Florida do), it might be quicker for you to do a 1-year LPN program and then do the 1-year LPN-RN bridge program. Bridge programs typically fill less quickly and are easier to secure a spot in than the straight 2-year RN programs.

Great advise Kittah!!! I definitely agree. I attained USF and waited to get into the nursing program but feels like its a waste of time. In the meantime, I got my LPN and now I'm in a LPN to RN bridge program at Galen. Other friends I know who are waiting to get in the USF Nursing program are still waiting till this day. I would advise to get want you can for now. Maximize on the opportunity and keep your options open. No sense in wasting time on a single school acceptance when you can take another route and obtain the same goal. Good Luck! :)
