Need your advice about Everette Providence medical center

Published

I live north of San Fran (30 minutes). I graduated in May 2008 and passed my boards in October. I have been actively looking for a job and nothing is happening in this area except for SNF jobs. My husband and I are now looking outside of this area and one city we like is Seattle plus Portland. Nothing online that I have searched, has presented itself in terms of a new grad program in Seattle but I did find something with Everette Providence medical center. I sent in my online application, got a call from a person who collects info via phone and then will pass the info to a nurse recruiter. The person asked for my professor's contact info so they could get references. I passed that info to her and my teacher emailed me back asking me if it was a new grad program because the person on the phone said "Providence is a fast paced acute care medical center and we seek graduates who have excelled in their nursing program, particularly in the areas of communication, prioritization, organization and critical thinking."

1) How fast pace is it??- Anybody know. How good is the new grad program and the support system?

2) Does anybody have any info about the hospital they can share??? Also any leads to other hospitals in Seattle would be greatly appreciated. We don't exactly have to live in Seattle. A suburban area close to Seattle (like 10 minutes with car) with great elementary schools would be a plus.

3) Any leads in Seattle for a new grad program is also appreciated.

Thank you,

You might also try the Tri Cities area, Kadlec Medical Center in Richland. It is an up and coming area, lower cost of living, warmer and drier that Seattle. They offer good benefits, DOUBLE CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE 401- K. They are hiring. They have been expanding and have a heart institute. Look them up.

Thanks Linda! Such a quick reply.

Thanks Linda! Such a quick reply.

The University of Washington has satelite schools in the Tri Cities area, so you can go back and get a Masters, and attend classes locally. I believe that Washington State also has satelite schools there. They are also several community colleges. Nice shopping areas. The area has really grown. The Tri Cities of Washington is comprised of three cities that are really close- Kennewick, Richland, the Pasco. It is in South Central Washington. Yakima is also near there. Hope that it helps.

After two years of nursing school and managing a house, a husband, and two kids under 8 I think I will have to wait for the masters. I want to sink my hands into nursing right now.

Providence in Everett is about 30 minutes north of Seattle (w/o traffic). I haven't worked there, but I've heard relatively good things about it. I believe they do hire new grads. My friend just graduated from Washington State University and once she finished her senior practicum, she was hired at Providence. I'll definitely seek more information from her and pass it on to you. I've also seen a few nurses that have posted on here that work at Providence. I hope they'll be able to give you their insights as well.

Btw, I love the Bay Area. :redpinkhe Just thought I'd let you know. ;)

Thank you. I'm getting anxious about this job search. I keep thinking about how I haven't been doing my skills for so long and how would anyone would want to hire me. It's a tough time for us new grads:mad:.

Yes would love to email your friend about Providence.

ok...last year i gave interview with providence and was offered a job in med/surg & onc overflow floor. I declined their offer. Two reasons for that: their residency was only 6 weeks clinical (3 - 12 hr shift /week) and thats it. Unlike other hospitals in seattle/tacoma, providence is not tailored to your needs. Other hospitals are geared towards individual. If you need more time, they extend the residency but not providence. The hiring nurse of the floor was telling me I had to be onc certified within that short period and yes 6 weeks only. Also one of my friend who worked there was telling me they were switching to complete computer charting....which was taking her time figuring out new charting and less time pt. care. She loved working there but was frustrated with little help during the new charting transition period.

UW is hiring new grads now for summer. Go to their website and apply. You have to email a lot...they dont call you...you have to call the nurse recruiter and nag them until they arrange interview with hiring managers.Their residency is 13 weeks clinical + some didatic classes with extension if you need it.The nurses are wonderful and charge RN never makes you feel..."you should have been on the floor by now attitude." They let you alone when you say....I'll be able to handle 4-5 pts now. It is very geared towards individual needs and preparedness.

Specializes in So far, just the basics....

comment removed, it offended the 'murse'. sorry, didn't mean to.

re: Hanford being the source of MS...don't spread ugly rumors like that around. That's ridiculous. MS is rampant around the entire area, and it has nothing to do with Hanford. It's scary that you would post such an uninformed statement.
