need some advice- Bored/Over my job

Published

Hello!!

Long story short, I graduated in Dec and have been working in the hospital since Jan as an Lpn. I am currently working on my rn with excelsior. But, lately I cannot stand going to work, it disgusts me. Im working on a tele/stroke unit.. "supposidly". but the unit pretty much feels like a nursing home, and mostly it seems we are just babysitting patients with no where to go. I was excited about it being a stroke unit when i first started bc i thought that would give me some good experience, but I maybe get 2 stroke patients a month. I know this is not the area of nursing i want to go into, which is why i went straight on to get my rn. I want to work in the or/pacu or even the nicu/l&d. My unit just bores me to death and frustrates me. The pts are usually all incontinent and i feel like the rns just expect to lpns to change them.

So the question is should I stick it out and be miserable til i finish my rn? Currently my hospital is not looking for lpns on other units that would be any better. but they are hiring in the pediatrics clinic. Would that be a bad idea to switch to the clinic until I can get the job i want??

thanks!!:o

My advice is if you are able to stick it out & handle it, then do that... It's a true BLESSING to have a hospital LPN job these days. They are becoming much less common it seems. It's almost impossible to get an LPN job in my rural area at a hospital. Even a clinic position is hard to obtain in my county. But that's just my opinion. Just keep telling yourself, "this too shall pass, & there are better things to come!" lol

thanks, that is a good way of putting it lol

I have to agree w/the PP. not all jobs, especially first jobs, are most people's first choice or the "dream" job. Think of it as dues-paying till you finish rn school. if it's an easy job, all the better. school will be hard and the less stress you have from work, the better off you'll be.

Consider yourself lucky!
