Need advice from accepted CU Denver Nursing students!

Your GPA is pretty good, definitely doesn't hurt to apply! As far as essays go, I would brainstorm past experiences (nursing or otherwise), and do a lot of reading about the nursing profession. Afterwards, really think about what nursing means to you, and what you want to do with the degree. It sounds obvious, but taking the time to research and reflect on your thoughts on the profession is very helpful for writing the essay. Succinctness with the essay is key, so edit like crazy! I'm not sure how the interview process goes these days, but if you're invited, take the time to think of questions they might ask and then write out points to bring up. Again, all this probably sounds pretty obvious, but this is what I did and I got into CU and every other program I applied to (6 in total). CU does look at the whole package, not just GPA. Regis, on the other hand, pay too much attention to GPAs. My undergrad GPA was 3.2. Regis didn't want me, and told me straight out it's because of my GPA. I was like "but my graduate GPA was 3.8 and I did this and this and this. They didn't care. But CU did. :) By the way, I graduated from CU in 2013.

Regis has the seamless progression program, which means anyone who completes pre-reqs there with a 3.5 or higher are automatically in the nursing program. As a result, there are only a small handful of spots open each year. If you can start out there, its an awesome program, but if you are coming from somewhere else, it is really hard to get in.

I'm in the CU College of Nursing BSN program. It's already September, so I hope you did indeed apply. My GPA was pretty mediocre: around a 3.6. My essay, however, was pretty darn good and I had some medical experience prior to applying. The interview is indeed a group interview and mine was incredibly easy. I spent days trying to think of possible questions they might ask and wrote out responses to each possible question. When I got there, they asked me a) why I wanted to be a nurse b) how I would handle the heavy course load and c) to tell them something unique about myself. I'm pretty sure that was about it. It's possible they've changed tactics in the last year, but I doubt it. Anyway, good luck!

I talked to an advisor a while back, and once you are invited for an interview, 1 in 2 people are offered a spot in the nursing program!

Congrats Lmfarzad and mjschenk! mjschenk, those are great odds. I think at info session they said they can get around 800 applicants and they bring around 300 in for interviews. In the email it mentions interview exercises. I have read on here that during once cycle, they did a group exercise as opposed to interview questions.
