Necessary to take Bio I before A&P I?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I am starting my nursing pre-reqs in January, and my college recommends taking just the first semester of Principles of Bio before A&P I. It is not a requirement. I am wondering if anyone who has already finished A&P could shed some light on how helpful or not it was to take the Bio? Or anyone that went straight to A&P? If I take Bio then it will put me at taking Micro my first semester of nursing school and that kind of scares the crap out of me. I was really hoping to be done with all of that before starting nursing classes. Thanks!

I'm taking A&P II now. I think Bio and Chem classes were helpful to understand the subject better.

I'm finding A&P much harder than Micro in terms of content, time needed to learn the chapters, etc. Can you take Micro during summer to avoid taking it during your 1st Nursing semester?

Good luck!

I just went straight to A&P. I did struggle a bit in the first unit, with the chapters on chemistry and cells though. Taking Bio first probably would have helped me, but I think I'll be okay without it.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO DONT DO IT! there is alot of bio in AP and alot of understanding cell theory and processes and each unit begins with the cell of that system and how they work. Genetics and micro are also pretty difficult without a firm basis in Biology.

After all can a mechanic understand how the whole engine works without knowing how the different parts work?

I'm doing fine in A&P without taking college Bio. I think it would be helpful though, but it's doable without it.
