I am taking Med-Surg Health & Illness class and ugh i hate it, i don't really know how to study for exams for this class. I have one on monday, and i'm freaking OUT! I hope i do well, but usually the first tests i never do as well as i should though. Any suggestions how to study for this particular class??

Hey there...Well in our LPN program first semester we had Med Surg I and this semester we have Med Surg II. The study tool that helped me in Med Surg I was making notecards on all powerpoints. I also reviewed the chapters and did review questions at the end of the chapters and in the workbooks. Biggest study tool that helps me best in all of my classes are making notecards. I hope this helps! Good luck!!!

the trick to studying for med/surg is to learn diseases and conditions by their pathophysiology, signs/symptoms, usual tests ordered, and medical treatment. this includes knowing about any medical procedures that will need to be performed on the patient, their expected consequences during the healing phase, and potential complications. surgery is a treatment for a disease or condition.

click on the link at the bottom of this post, the critical thinking flow sheet for nursing students, and print it out. use this to help you learn all the elements you need to know about each medical disease/condition you will be studying in your course. to determine priority of treatments and interventions consider the sequence of the appearance of symptoms and/or maslow's hierarchy of needs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/maslow's_hierarchy_of_needs)

Med-Surg makes up most of the board questions, and not to mention, but it makes up 90 percent of your career. Maybe you're looking too much into all the information? Just break it down piece by piece. You can't slack off in that class and expect to be the best nurse possible. Take your time, take a deep breath, and pace yourself. You should review all material covered in that class at least one hour per day, but I recommend two.

I got a B on my first test, that works for me:) flashcards does help a lotttttt. and next time i think i'll do the workbook too to help me study! off to a grreat semester =)
