Is anyone applying to the NCTC online program for 2012?
The questions are fine, I had a lot too but noone to answer them. The program begins in January and ends in December. You study and take exams & quizzes online during the week. You practice skills and math on the weekend at the beginning of the program. You then have clinicals at a nursing home on the weekend until finals. In the summer your clinicals are at the hospital. You have two teachers that help you though everything. It is hard especially if you have a family & full time employment which majority of us in the class do. Time management!! It can be accomplished but it will take some discipline.
That sounds wonderful! :) I know someone who went through the traditional program and she loved it and had no trouble getting a job. But yeah, I believe it will be rather difficult no matter where I go or what schedule I take. Discipline, I got that! Other than discipline and time management, (which go hand-in-hand), what else helps? I know about a good attitude and not being afraid to ask for help, etc...
Critical thinking is a must. The math is not difficult you just have to pay attention. Practice your skills check off sheet until you know it verbatim. Once your accepted into the program purchase all of your supplies early. I had to pay out of pocket for my books so I saved $700 compared to some of my classmates that purchased the book package from the bookstore. We only used about 40% of the books in that package.
Gotcha! Well, if they take me, I think the online deal will work out best for my schedule. So many other schools don't have part-time/weekend/evening programs. I think it's a good way to allow those who have to work a way to become a nurse. The more traditional programs are just fine if you can just do that, or part-time work.
