NCLEX after 14 years?

I graduated from Nursing school back in July 2007. I have taken the NCLEX twice and sadly failed both times. I am ready to attempt taking it again after taking a review course. I know in Michigan, where I live, I cannot take the NCLEX because it has been over three years since graduation. Do any of you know where I'd be able to apply to and take the exam? I checked into Ohio but was unable to get anywhere. If I am unable to find it anywhere, would taking a nursing refresher course allow me to take it?

I have worked too hard to give up now. ?

Thank you so much for the help or advice you can offer.

I work in a hospital system that offers a nurse residency program to nurses with less than six months of experience. When I started the interview process, I was open and honest about my background. Having a BSN and a nurse refresher program on my resume really helped. But I believe the initial interview with the nurse recruiter helped my application go forward. Look for hospitals that offer that. You never know until you try. Good luck!!

Thank you, and I appreciate your prompt response! I'm glad everything worked out for you!! May I know what your previous job was before being an RN? Did you apply directly to the hospital or an agency? I really hope I can get into one of those residency programs. I already have a Hawaii State RN license, but I haven't been able to practice since I have zero RN experience. I'm trying to look for states who accept New Grads and will try to endorse my license there.

You're welcome, and yes, I am very happy it worked out for me. It can happen to you too!

I was self-employed for many years, cleaning houses. I currently work for an HCA hospital, Methodist Healthcare. I chose them because they offer their residency program multiple times a year, so there are many opportunities to get accepted. I applied directly to the methodist website and just waited for that first interview. My #1 tip is to be open to the opportunities they offer you. I initially wanted pediatrics, but it wasn't happening due to the pandemic. Get that experience first and then look for that dream job. I hope that helps. Good luck!?

Ohio Board of Nursing is a mess right now. I graduated in December, but took contacting my state rep to get my ATT. Phone calls don't get you a real person and they are so behind right now.

Wow! I actually graduated BSN in 2007 (Philippines) and haven't taken the NCLEX yet. Can I get anybody's suggestion if it's good to buy and read the NCLEX Saunders Comprehensive Review or just practice the NCLEX Q&A?

Hi, I was wondering if you were able to find a state to take your NCLEX.

I graduated almost ten years ago from a nursing school in Virginia. I took my NCLEX twice and failed. After that, I was super discouraged and moved on with life. I moved to New York. After almost ten years, I've now been working as a CNA and now feel more confident and would like to retry the NCLEX, but I'm afraid my time has run out. So I was wondering if you were able to make it work. Thank you!

Yes, I did; I took the NCLEX in California but tested in my home state of texas. Then after I passed the NCLEX, I applied for a texas license by endorsement. This was back in 2019. I am now at my second nursing job with 2+ years of experience now ? No, your time has not run out yet. You have to try again, or else you'll never know. Good luck ??

@Nicole Dolan

I'm from NY, and thankfully in our state, you can retake your NCLEX even after ten years! Definitely do it!

Time has NOT run out ?

Thank you! I'm seriously going to look into it and start hardcore studying!

It's possible! If you have any questions or need any help LMK. I was a PCA for years after I failed the NCLEX, then after 8 years I retook it and passed.

I just want to thank you all! I was in a similar situation. I graduated in 2010 with my ASN but during clinicals my father was dx'd w AML and passed away soon after I graduated. I was devastated plus a single mom of 3 young boys. I put life on hold for awhile. After the last two years working in Biopharma with a CRO, I want to move up but without a BSN there isn't a lot open. So here I am back to the possiblity of taking NCLEX but I reside in KS. After reading all of your posts I am excited to think that I could pass and finally move forward in my career.
