NCLEX worries

Published

Hi, I was just wondering how to not freak out over the NCLEX lol. I graduate next month, but have already been studying off and on for months now and have almost became obsessive over it and just am freaking out over the amount of content to know. I do fairly well on my Kaplan scores compared to most and am using the Saunders review book, however, I just never fail to get overwhelmed by the amount I have to know and get frustrated and at times even angry over missing questions or not knowing something because I am such a perfectionist. I knew that this would be a problem for me come this time, and I just need advice on how to get over this. I am trying to make a study schedule which is seeming to help, and will sign up for UWorld once I graduate and am going to be taking a review class, both which I think will help by giving me some guidance and trust them much more than Kaplan and Saunders.

The big thing to know about the NCLEX, its just as important for you to understand the types of questions they are going to ask and test taking strategies to answer them. If you only do content-based review, then you will have a hard time.

Just study for now, but don't over study. You need to pace yourself and create a study plan. If you over study, you can run into entirely different problems. I scheduled my nclex 4 weeks out and then broke up my study time over 4 weeks.

I completely agree with the above poster. Another thing - stop reading all these "Failed" posts on Allnurses.com. Seriously, they will give you more anxiety. The fact that you have to take NCLEX is stressful enough, just focus on how to take the exam. How to answer NCLEX type questions. There is too much content and no way you will know everything. Think of safety, as NCLEX is testing whether or not you will be able to safely care for patients. Pace yourself. Do not overwhelm yourself. Use your exit HESI to figure out your weak spots and work on those. Know that NCLEX is predominately Med-Surg content so I would focus on that as well.

So many tips, I'm sure others have more to add.
